  • PREP TENNIS: 5th Region Tournament draws announced

    Taylor County juniors Tanner Parks and Tyler Perkins earned the top seed in the boys’ doubles bracket for the 5th Region Tennis Tournament, which starts Monday morning at Freeman Lake Park in Elizabethtown.

    Parks and Perkins received a first-round bye.

  • PREP BASEBALL: Goodin leads Cardinals past No. 11 Central Hardin

    D.J. Goodin helped the Taylor County Cardinals pick up one of their biggest wins of the season Monday evening.

    The junior hit a three-run home run and threw a complete-game two-hit shutout as Taylor County upended the 11th-ranked Central Hardin Bruins, 11-0 in five innings.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Lady Cardinals win twice

    The Taylor County Lady Cardinals picked up a pair of wins in three games last week, beating 20th District rival Adair County and 5th Region foe Thomas Nelson sandwiched around a loss to Mercer County.

    Taylor County took control quickly against Thomas Nelson, scoring 10 times in the second on the way to a 15-0 win in three innings Tuesday night.

  • PREP BASEBALL: Holy Cross squeezes Eagles out of All 'A'

    The Campbellsville Eagles knew exactly what was coming, but they couldn’t make the play that likely would have kept Friday’s game at Louisville Holy Cross going.

    Holy Cross junior Trenton Brewer perfectly executed a suicide squeeze, scoring junior Craig Thompson, to send the Cougars to a 2-1 win over the Eagles in the All ‘A’ Section 3 title game.

  • PREP BASEBALL: Taylor's Gumm reaches 600 wins


    Taylor County baseball coach Jeff Gumm reached 600 career wins in April, reaching the mark as the Cardinals beat 20th District foe Marion County, 13-3 on April 12.

    Gumm, who now has 606 victories, ranks eighth on the career wins among active coaches, according to the KHSAA record books. He ranks 18th all-time in the KHSAA.

  • PREP BASEBALL: Eagles, Cardinals split final two games of series


    The Taylor County Cardinals and Campbellsville Eagles split the final two games of their best-of-three series last week.

    Taylor County rolled to a 15-2 mercy-rule win in Game 3 on Thursday, while Campbellsville grinded out a 16-11 victory in Game 2 on Tuesday.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Lady Cards go 2-1, Lady Eagles win once


    Sophomore Autumn Henderson went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs as Taylor County held off 20th District rival Adair County, 7-5 on Monday.

    Junior Danielle Sublett was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, while sophomore Addie Westbrook doubled and scored a run.

    Henderson struck out eight to earn the win. She allowed six hits, five earned runs and one walk.

  • PREP BASEBALL: Eagles win 5th Region All 'A' championship


    Coach Blake Milby tried everything he could to get his players to wake up Sunday afternoon at Fort Knox High School.

    Playing for the 5th Region All ‘A’ Tournament championship should have been more than enough to shake the Campbellsville Eagles out of their doldrums, but the team slogged through the first three innings against Bethlehem.

  • PREP TRACK: Cardinals, Lady Cards place second at conference


    The Taylor County boys’ and girls’ track programs earned runner-up finishes during last Thursday’s Heartland Athletic Conference Championship meet at Green County High School.

    The Cardinals scored 121 points, 19 behind champion Green County. The Lady Cardinals, meanwhile, scored 102, which was 57 behind top finisher Green County.

    The Campbellsville girls placed third with 53 points, and the Eagle boys were fourth with 32.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Lady Eagles win twice; Lady Cards split two


    Behind the pitching of freshman Kenzi Forbis, the Campbellsville Lady Eagles picked up a pair of wins last week.

    Forbis struck out 11 in their 1-0, eight-inning win over 5th Region foe Thomas Nelson on Thursday on the heels of a seven-strikeout night in an 11-4 win over 20th District nemesis Adair County on April 10.

    Forbis was one walk and a hit away from a perfect game against the Generals.
