• Soldier with Campbellsville connections dies in Afghanistan

    Capt. Brian M. "Bubba" Bunting, 29, a former manager at Amazon.com's Campbellsville fulfillment center, has died.

    Bunting and three other U.S. Army soldiers were killed by an improvised explosive device that detonated near their vehicle in Kandahar, Afghanistan on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

    Bunting was a member of the Individual Ready Reserve and was assigned to the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Syracuse, N.Y.

  • Karl K. Lusk, 94

    Karl K. Lusk, 94, of Paris, Ky., died Monday, March 2, 2009, in Paris after a three-year-illness.

    A native of Paris, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a retired funeral director and embalmer, and former officer/stockholder of Lusk Funeral Homes in Paris and Millersburg, Ky.

    He was married to Ruby Plummer Lusk for 63 years. She preceded him in death.

    Survivors include a son, Karl Lusk Jr., who is pastor of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Campbellsville; a daughter, Marty Lusk White; four grandchildren; a stepgrandson; and several great-grandchildren.

  • Wanda West Pipino, 82

    Wanda West Pipino, 82, of Scottsville, Ky., died at noon on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in Scottsville.

    Daughter of the late Eugene Johnson and Lela Tibbs Johnson, she was born in Brownsville, Ky., on July 8, 1926. She attended East Willow Church of God.

  • William Lewis Loyall, 80

    William Lewis Loyall, 80, of Green County, Ky., died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

    Son of the late Lloyd Bine Loyall and Ida Moten Goff Loyall, he was born on May 16, 1928 in Green County. He was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Campbellsville, was an employee at Winn Milling in Greensburg and was a farmer.

    He was married to Marianna Marr Loyall, who survives.

  • Judy Vaughn Morrison, 72

    Judy Vaughn Morrison, 72, of Columbia, Ky., died at 11:28 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Summit Manor Health & Rehab in Columbia.

    Daughter of the late J.L. and Elsie Furkin Vaughn Sr., she was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and was a funeral director.

    She was married to Nathan R. "Ray" Morrison, who survives.

  • Lucille Wood, 81

    Lucille Wood, 81, of Campbellsville died at 10:55 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Ky.

    Daughter of the late Shelby and Gertie Wooley, she was a Taylor County native.

    Survivors include a daughter, Luann Grant of Columbia, Ky.; three brothers, Howard Wilbur Wooley of Louisville, Ky., Shirley Wooley of Campbellsville and Roy Wooley of Liberty, Ky.; a sister, Mary Jo Sneed of Campbellsville; and four grandchildren, Zack Grant and Lincoln Grant, both of Columbia, and Ashley Wood and Justin Wood, both of Campbellsville.

  • Curtis H. Pickett, 79

    Curtis H. Pickett, 79, of Greensburg, Ky., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg.

    Son of the late Rollin Pickett and Minnie Floyd Pickett, he was born on March 21, 1929, in Green County, Ky. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a construction worker.

    He was married to Nina Hurt on Feb. 16, 1964. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2003.

  • Gloria June Craig, 78

    Gloria June Craig, 78, of Elk Horn, Ky., died at 3:23 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009, in Lebanon, Ky.

    Daughter of the late Russell Jones and June Rucker Jones, she was born on June 6, 1930, in Vincennes, Ind. She was a member of Green River Memorial Baptist Church and was a caregiver and homemaker.

    She was married to Merial Shreve, who preceded her in death.

    She later married James Bernard Craig on Aug. 4, 1989. He preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2007.

    Lillie M. Loy, 65, of Columbia, Ky., died at 9:37 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Ky., after an illness.

    Daughter of the late Finis and LilyVene Franklin Crawhorn of Adair County, Ky., she was a member of Word of Life Family Church and was disabled.

  • The Rev. Wallace E. Thomas, 75

    The Rev. Wallace E. Thomas, 75, of Brandenburg, Ky., died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Ky.

    He was a retired United Methodist minister.

    He was married to Kate "Kay" Thomas, who survives.
