Maze Stallworth has stepped down as head coach of the Taylor County High School boys' basketball team after two seasons.

The move was announced Monday morning, just 14 days before the Cardinals' season opener at Bullitt Central. Stallworth went 25-38 at Taylor County after taking over following the departure of Richard Gatewood. Stallworth led the Cardinals to the 5th Region title in his first seaason at the helm -- their third championship in a row -- but they dipped to 5-23 last year and lost to rival Campbellsville in the semifinals of the Boys' 20th District Basketball Tournament.

Stallworth wouldn't say what's next for him, only saying it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. The former John Hardin High School and Morehead State University star guard had been a head coach for five seasons, including three at Casey County before taking over at Taylor County.

As of this writing, Taylor County Schools have not publicly announced who will coach the Cardinals on an interim basis. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
