Marion County sophomore Haley Mattingly threw a complete game two-hit shutout as the Lady Knights beat Taylor County, 3-0 in Thursday’s 20th District Softball Tournament championship game.

The Lady Cardinals (19-12) never could get on track against Mattingly, getting a double from sophomore Autumn Henderson and a single from junior Mariah Cox.

Mattingly – who has been a bugaboo for Taylor County since she joined Marion County’s varsity team – struck out 11, throwing first-pitch strikes to 20 of the 26 batters she faced.

The top-seeded Lady Knights scored one run in the second inning and two more in the fourth, winning for the sixth time in eight games.

Henderson struck out six as the Lady Cards beat Campbellsville in the tournament semifinals Wednesday.

She scattered four hits and one walk in seven innings.

Senior Sarah Botkin and sophomore Raegan Mardis each hit a run-scoring single for Taylor County, while sophomore Addie Westbrook singled and scored once.

Eighth-grader Olivia Fields had two hits for the Lady Eagles, who finish the season with a 12-15 record.
