Library Notes: A Cool Place For Young People!

Lisa Carnes

Youth Services Librarian

There are many changes and programs happening at the Taylor County Public Library, especially for young people.  Preschool story hour is going strong on Thursday mornings at 10:30. We read a special book each week, listen to music, play games, and make crafts that tie in with our story. All preschool children, ages 2-5 are invited to attend. No registration is required. If Thursday mornings are not a good time for you and your preschooler, let us know!  Additional story hours can be added if necessary.

We want all young people in our area to enjoy the library, and we are planning several new programs for different age groups. Kids aged, 5-9, are invited to the library each Thursday afternoon at 3:30.

We will read and share our favorite books, make crafts, and do many different activities related to our favorite books and reading materials. Beginning in April, we will offer a program especially for our youngest patrons.

Books for Babies will begin April 3; caregivers and children aged 0-2 years are invited to this special program of songs, puppets, stories, and fun. Our program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and last approximately 20 minutes. All babies and caregivers are invited to this fun, special time at the library.

Taylor County Public Library is also forming a Teen Advisory Group for young adults ages 13-17.

This group will assist us in developing programs for young adults, ranging from reading programs to current technology trends. All interested teens, please contact Lisa Carnes at the library for more information.

We, the library staff, are extremely excited about our new programs, and we love to hear patron suggestions and ideas.

We encourage parents, kids, and young adults to let us know what you, the patron, would like to see at the library.

If you have program ideas, suggestions for new books and materials, or any other ideas related to the library, please feel free to share them with any staff member.

We look forward to seeing all young people at our library in the immediate future.
