Hemp bill passes state Senate

-A A +A

Gov. Beshear, Kentucky State Police still opposed

By Leslie Moore

The hotly debated Senate Bill 50 that calls for the legalization of industrial hemp in Kentucky moved one step closer to becoming law after passing through the state Senate earlier this month.

Though the bill boasts strong political support from key politicians, including U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture James Comer, it still faces steep odds in the House where it is being heard this week.

Gov. Steve Beshear and the Kentucky State Police are also reluctant to support the hemp bill.
