A 20-year-old Campbellsville man was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital where he later passed away following an accidental shooting last Wednesday at the Lucky Vista Motel.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a man with an accidental gunshot wound to the head just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6.

TCSO, along with Campbellsville Police and Campbellsville-Taylor County EMS, responded to the scene and discovered 20-year-old Tyson Rice inside the motel.

A press release from TCSO about the incident states that preliminary investigations reveal that Rice and his brother were playing with a loaded 9mm handgun when it discharged, striking Rice in the head.

At the time of the release, Rice remained in critical condition. However, he later succumbed to his injuries on Saturday at the University of Louisville Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, but TCSO has stated that they are investigating it as an accidental shooting.
