Former principal David Petett is transferring to a central office position

By Zac Oakes

Campbellsville High School has begun looking for its third principal in three years.

Former CHS Principal David Petett will be transferring to the district’s central office as director of food service and federal programs.

Petett served as CHS principal during the 2017-2018 school year, moving from another central office position as the district’s Transportation Director. He succeeded now CIS Superintendent Kirby Smith as principal.

The position was posted on the district’s website last Tuesday, and the school’s Site Based Decision Making Council met for the first time Friday to undergo formal training on the principal hiring process. There is no deadline for filing an application according to the job posting, only stating that the application period will remain open until filled.

The council met again Monday to begin the process. That meeting consisted of council members gathering information from district stakeholders, including faculty, staff, parents, etc. It also included members gathering criteria for principal selection, and beginning the process of preparing interview questions.

A survey was sent to district stakeholders and is available online through the district’s website at cville.kyschools.us.

The council will meet again tonight at 6 p.m. in a special session to begin scheduling interviews for the position.

The district expects to have a principal in place at CHS by the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 8.

The CHS SBDM Council consists of Smith, teachers Ben Davis, Anthony Epps and Tyler Hardy, and parents Lyle Knifley and Kayce Reynolds.

Former Food Service Director and Director of Pupil Personnel Jeff Richardson will be retiring from his position, effective July 31.

In other news from the Campbellsville Independent Schools monthly board meeting Monday night:

• The board went into executive session for approximately an hour to discuss personnel. There was no action taken from discussions during the executive session.

• Board members voted to contribute $2,500 to the Site-Based Decision Making Councils at Campbellsville middle and high schools. The money will be earmarked to pay for school supplies.

• The board heard from the district’s Family Resource and Youth Services Center Coordinator, Sue Crabtree, who will be retiring in August. Crabtree shared some of her most memorable experiences working in the district and thanked the board for all they have done.

• The board approved BG4 forms for the grandstand/press box project, signaling the near completion of the project.
