  • VMP softball action

Campbellsville Baptist Church, in partnership with Taylor County Fiscal Court, is making sure softball action and fellowship remain at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Church took over operation of the 30+-year-old park three years ago and the numbers have grown greatly with 14 Men’s Church teams playing on Mondays, 10 Coed Church squads on Tuesdays and 11 Industrial units on Thursdays.

  • Keeping golf scores in pencil

Despite living in a high technology age, something hit me odd while watching John “J.B.” Holmes over the weekend in the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn.
It seems odd that with all the computers that a player still has to fill out his/her own golf scorecard.
On PGATour.com, they keep up with the running score, but why is it that once a player wins a tournament, he/she still must go back to the “tent” and fill out his final scorecard to make it official.
I’m sure it has to be tradition, but some things need to change over the course of time.

  • Who's returning, who's...

Two teams made the region and two squads did not and only in 1990 did all four of the local spring ball teams advance to Fifth Region tournament play.
Campbellsville will be shooting for its sixth straight 20th District baseball crown in 2013, but must do so without double-digit winner Brett Kearney, who also led the Eagles in hitting while also playing shortstop and center field.
Designated hitter Aylette Cowherd, shortstop-pitcher Lake Wiseman and third baseman Mason Wethington also have been lost to graduation for coach Kirby Smith’s club.

  • Little League District Tourneys...

The week of July 4 means lots of celebrations and this year it also is the start of the Little League Baseball District 5 Tournament in Russell County.
Campbellsville’s teams will begin play on Monday, July 2 vs. Glasgow with the 9-10-year-old sanctioned team playing at 7 p.m. (ET) and the 11-12-year-old sanctioned unit at 9 in the top bracket.
The winner of those games will play Washington County on Tuesday, July 3 at the same times.
