  • Lady Tigers ink Montgomery...

    The top player in the 10th Region signed to play basketball at Campbellsville University when Montgomery County's Mackenzie Lee accepted a scholarship offer earlier this month from Lady Tiger coach Ginger Colvin.

    Lee was about 8 years old when her sister, Whitney, signed with CU. No stranger to Lady Tiger basketball, the 5-7 senior for the Lady Indians played in five state tournaments after competing for one of the winningest programs in the state in the last decade.

  • Lady Eagles drop district opener...

    Campbellsville High School's Lady Eagles dropped its district softball opener on Wednesday before besting Hart County on Thursday.

    The Lady Eagles fell 7-2 at Adair County as the Lady Indians raced out to a 5-1 advantage.

    Ashley Bates had two hits for CHS while Danielle Morris, Ashley Kessinger, Megan Shively and Tiffany Slone had one apiece.

    The Lady Eagles pushed across three runs in the fourth inning to conquer Hart County 5-3 at home.

  • Lady Eagles go 3-2 on Florida...

    Campbellsville High School's Lady Eagles went 3-2 on their spring trip to the Sunshine State last week.

    Coach Dale Estes' team bested Corbin 11-7 in the first game on April 5 as Amber Gamboa went 3-5 and Tiffany Slone 2-4.

    Slone had three runs batted in while Gamboa, Ashley Kessinger and Hannah Taylor had two apiece.

    Kessinger, Taylor, Danielle Morris, Ashley Bates and Alex Davis also hit safely.

  • Chase-powered baseball Tigers...

    The No. 10-rated Campbellsville University baseball Tigers have once again clinched a regional berth as they swept St. Catharine College on the road.

    The win for coach Beauford Sanders' Tigers moved them to 29-7 overall and 15-1 in the Mid-South Conference. The Tigers will be the No. 1 seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament the end of this month.

    In the two-game sweep, Ian Pick and Marc Wilson both moved to 6-0 on the season.

    Wilson was especially dominant, allowing just one run in the complete-game effort.

  • Campbellsville U. hosting...

    Campbellsville University's baseball and softball teams are dominating Mid-South Conference play, but there is also basketball and football occurring big-time on campus.

    The Kentucky All Stars will host try-outs Friday and Saturday.

    The girls' team will have scrimmages tomorrow from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m.

    The boys' squad, which includes Courier-Journal second-team all-state guard Chase Cox of Taylor County, will work out tomorrow from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m.

  • Lady Tigers chalk up another...

    In front of a home crowd, the Campbellsville University Lady Tigers' softball team once again was perfect with another 4-0 conference tour.

    Campbellsville University swept Lindsey Wilson 4-0 and 9-0 on Wednesday and then on their Senior Day swept visiting West Virginia Tech.

    The Lady Tigers are now 32-5-1 overall and sit atop the Mid-South Conference standings with a 17-1-1 worksheet.

  • TCHS, CHS swim teams conclude...

    The Campbellsville and Taylor County High School swim teams completed their season Feb. 6-7 at the Region 3 Swim Championship at Falling Springs Recreation Center in Versailles.

    Head coach Steve Doss said he is extremely pleased with the overall performance of each of the young squads.

    "At our initial meeting of the year at Taylor County High School, there were a large number of students interested in swimming. I guess you can say we were benefiting from what's called the Olympic bounce."

  • Thomas breaks two records at...

    Taylor County High School senior Chris Thomas won his class for the second year in a row and broke two state records at the State Weightlifting Meet at Central Hardin High School on March 9.

    Thomas broke the dead lift record (645 set in 1995 by Trigg County's Shelando Grubbs) with a lift of 650 in the 205-pound class. He also broke the total pounds mark (1,000 previously held by Bardstown's William Redd in 1993) with 1,015 total. Thomas had 365 on the bench press.

    Thomas was named Outstanding Lifter of the Day.
