  • Brown plans to eventually teach...

    Taylor County High School catcher Mikey Brown will continue calling the pitching signals after signing with Lindsey Wilson College on Wednesday morning.

    "It's close to home and it seems to be like a good school to go to," Brown said of his decision to cast his lot with coach Mike Talley's Blue Raiders.

    "I'll have to make the big adjustment going from high school to college," Brown reckoned of his toughest move to the Columbia NAIA school.

    Brown wants to major in education and eventually teach history along with a coaching career.

  • Still in their blood

    Campbellsville hosted a first-ever event Memorial Day weekend as more than 50 contestants, representing more than 30 communities, participated in the Campbellsville Open Horseshoe Pitching Tournament at Miller Park.

    With 12 new pits ready, according to Ralph White, one of the organizers, the state-sanctioned tournament was a huge success.

    City workers cut the pits out of the asphalt on part of the lower park tennis courts and White, Ivan Bault, Bill Garrett, Billy Followell and Terry Roberts did the rest.

  • Kids Outdoor Day on Saturday at...

    One whole day of outdoor fun, fun, fun is coming up on Saturday at the Green River Lake State Park and Camp Kentahten in Campbellsville.

    The 2008 Kids' Outdoor Day is hosted by the local chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), and there is an endless amount of things for children to do! Numerous, exciting, entertaining, fun filled outdoor activities for children of all ages are available to participate in including: game calling, fishing, trap shooting, boating safety, .22 rifle shooting, archery, canoeing, tomahawk throwing, inflatables, karate, and air rifles.

  • Jessie takes Lady Cards'...

    Jenny Jessie is sliding over one seat, but it's a seat she's quite familiar with.

    Jessie was formally hired as the head basketball coach for the Taylor County Lady Cardinals on Tuesday night, but it was a move almost everyone knew would happen when David Parsons announced his retirement near the start of the 2007-2008 season.

    "I am very excited and honored to have this opportunity," Jessie said. "I think Taylor County basketball is a program that can be built into a force across the region.

    "We have a great deal of young talent that has lots of varsity experience."

  • Lady Tigers go 0-2, Tigers in...

    Campbellsville University's softball season came to a close on Thursday in soggy conditions at the NAIA Region XI Softball Tournament in Henderson, Tenn. with a 3-2 loss to Mid-South Conference rival Georgetown College.

    Campbellsville (29-22) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Krystle Johnson knocked a two-run homer over the left-field fence on a 3-2 count. Johnson's shot scored Elaine Briscoe who had singled earlier in the inning.

  • TC downs Washington, North Laurel

    Taylor County High School's baseball team bounced back from a district loss to Marion County and upended Washington County and North Laurel.

    The Cardinals fell to the Knights 6-3 on May 1 despite two-hit games from Joel Hardesty and Matt Burress and run-scoring doubles by Shane Morris and Jordan Drury.

    Chance Walls and Chase Roution had one hit apiece.

    Taylor County used some late-inning heroics to best Washington County 5-2 on Monday.

  • CHS' Milby inks with Lindsey

    Campbellsville High School shortstop Blake Milby signed on Friday to continue his baseball career at Lindsey Wilson College.

    "It just seemed like the right fit for me," Milby said after casting his lot with the Blue Raiders.

    "I'll need to get used to the college pitching," Milby answered when asked what adjustments he would need to make.

    Milby, who also considered Campbellsville University and St. Catharine College, plans to major in education with a future goal to teach and coach.

  • Lady Eagles claim Heartland...

    Meredith Haley won the singles' title while Alison Medders and Ashley Phillips finished second in doubles to power coach Carol Tucker's Campbellsville High School Lady Eagles to the Heartland Athletic Conference Tennis Tournament title on Tuesday at Miller Park.

    The Lady Eagle doubles' team of Ariel Milby and Summer Montgomery also reached the semis.

    Taylor County's Lady Cardinals were third as Kristina Hjelt lost to Haley in the championship and TCHS' Jessica Seaborne fell in the semis.

    Marion County won the boys' team championship with Taylor County finishing second.

  • Tigers still tops in MSC baseball

    Campbellsville University made it four straight Mid-South Conference Tournament baseball championships in a row with a 5-1 triumph at home over University of the Cumberlands on Thursday.

    After the Patriots (43-12) led 1-0 with a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers (24-18) tallied two in the seventh and three more in the eighth for the victory.

    In the seventh, Jason Beale was hit by a pitch and went to second on Matt Lepage's walk. Hector Urbaneja's sacrifice put runners at second and third.

  • White beats Maroon 22-20 in CU...

    Behind the strong arm of quarterback Ross Deaton, the White team overcame a 14-0 deficit on Saturday to defeat the Maroon team 22-20 in the Campbellsville University Spring Game.

    The Maroon squad jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the defense recovered a fumble for a touchdown romp. But, the White team fought back behind several big pass plays from Deaton and led 22-14 before the Maroon team scored again late in the game.
