  • TCHS grad signs with CU

    Once Taylor County High School's Becca Cook made up her mind to continue playing softball in college, she said it wasn't hard choosing Campbellsville University.

    Cook put pen to paper Thursday afternoon in the H&W Sport Shop Ronnie Hord Field House on the CU campus and signed on with Shannon Wathen's Tigers. She is the 10th signee of the 2010-2011 class.

    Cook played recently with four members of Wathen's recruiting class, one in the East-West All-Star game and three others in the Kentucky vs. Tennessee All-Stars.

  • 11-12s fall in extra innings at...

    Campbellsville’s 11-12-year-old Little League All Stars dropped their final game of pool play and fell in the state tournament semi-finals at Hazard last week.

    The local squad rolled 9-3 over Lewis County and 9-4 vs. North Laurel in the first pool-play games July 17-18.

    Austin Hash (single, home run) and Hunter McQueary (single, double) had two hits and two RBI each vs. Lewis County while Austin Matney had two singles and an RBI.

    Campbellsville’s 10-11-year-old Little League All Stars went 1-2 at the state tournament last week in Corbin.

  • Campin' Out

    Girls' basketball teams from Taylor County, Anderson County, Bullitt East, Adair County, Webster County, Allen County-Scottsville, Greenwood and Metcalfe County participated in a team camp in Campbellsville last week under the leadership of former CU Lady Tiger head coach Donna Wise.

    Members of the present Lady Tiger women's basketball team and coaching staff provided supervision, clock operation and refereeing.

     

  • CU, Georgetown picked to be best...

    The Mid-South Conference football coaches have tabbed Campbellsville University and Georgetown College the favorites in the East Division and University of the Cumberlands the team to beat in the West Division, according to the preseason poll announced last week.

    Campbellsville and Georgetown each received 32 voting points from the seven East coaches, while Cumberlands received 36 voting points, including six first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team in the preseason poll.

    TCHS cheerleaders meeting on Monday at 6

    New Taylor County High School cheerleading coach Stephanie Gay will have a meeting for all interested girls on Monday, July 19 at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Potential cheerleaders need to bring an updated physical to this meeting.

    TCMS begins football practice Monday at 5:30

    Taylor County Middle School will start football practice on Monday, July 19 at 5:30 p.m.

  • Youth soccer signups

    Campbellsville Youth Soccer Association will have signups for the fall recreational soccer league this week and next.

    Teams are available in age divisions U6 through U14.

    Signups are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wise Dentistry for Kids, 105 Medical Park Drive.

    There will also be signups on Monday, July 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Veterans Memorial Park Community Center.

    Registration is also available online at www.campbellsvilleyouthsoccer.com.

     

  • Babe Ruth baseball

    Babe Ruth 13- and 14/15-year-old All Star teams played two games over the weekend at Campbellsville University's Tiger Baseball Field.

    Both teams lost to Russell County who will play Somerset in the final game.
