  • Who wins this all-star game?

    My first Major League Baseball game on television or in person seems like yesterday.
    I believe I watched my first game during the 1962 season, Nellie Fox stands out, before my sixth birthday and I do remember watching the 1963 World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.
    The first games I was ever fortunate enough to watch in person were in 1969 and 1970 when M.B. and Alma Gaskins and their son, Frank, took me to historic Crosley Field to watch the Cincinnati Reds.

    Campbellsville’s Elliott Despain picked up his second feature event victory of 2011 in dominating fashion by scoring the win in the modified feature at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside on Saturday.

    Tim Tungate of Campbellsville claimed his biggest win of the 2011 race season by picking up the $3,000-to-win National All Star Racing Association event on Friday at Clinton County Speedway in Alpha.
    Other local racers that competed in the A-Main event include Jeff Watson (finished sixth), Johnny Wheeler (eighth) and Justin Rattliff (24th).

    Campbellsville’s 11-12-year-old squad was won two and lost two at the Little League District 5 Tournament at Marion County.
    Campbellsville, coached by Adam Bottoms, scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to down South Hardin 13-12 on Saturday.
    On Sunday, the local contingent fell to Washington County, who drew a first-round bye, 6-5 in nine innings.
    Campbellsville bounced back to upend Marion County 7-3 on Monday before being eliminated by Russell County 6-2 on Tuesday night.

    After losing a hard-fought 8-7 decision in its opening game on Saturday, Campbellsville won three straight games in the Little League District 5 9-10-year-old Tournament in Lebanon.

  • Kehoe's strong State Am run...

    Taylor County High School freshman-to-be Ellen Kehoe finished in the final four at the Women’s State Amateur last week at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray.
    Kehoe downed Meredith Cross, seeded 16th, 5 & 4 for her first win in match play and then defeated the defending champion, former Central Hardin stand-out and current Middle Tennessee State University golfer Karissa Akin, on the third play-off hole on Wednesday to reach the elite eight.

  • Yankees come way back for Minor...

    The Yankees lost their first-round game, but  came all the way back in the losers’ bracket and defeated the Tigers twice on Saturday for the Minor League baseball tournament crown.

    This is coach Curt Gaskins’ fourth Minor League Tournament title to go with three regular-season championships.
