Taylor County’s Lady Cardinals used a 20-11 fourth quarter to overcome Meade County 54-46 at home on Thursday night.

The Lady Cards (2-0) trailed 8-2 early before Cayla Rucker hit a free throw and Elizabeth Thomas two lay-ups around a pair of Hope Wigginton three-pointers.

The Lady Waves fought back to a 24-24 deadlock at halftime and led 35-34 heading to the final eight minutes.

However, Taylor County took the lead for good on Wigginton’s left base-line trey and used a Rucker three, her fifth of the night, to lead 45-40.

Zach Allender led three Tiger players in double figure scoring as Campbellsville University survived a late rally by Urbana University to win its fourth game in a row on Monday 70-64 in the Tigers' annual game at Gallatin County High School in Warsaw.

The Blue Knights used a slow down style offense for much of the game until the Tigers were able to sprint out to a 57-42 lead with 3:21 remaining in the game.  At that point, Urbana went into a full court pressure defense and a more aggressive offense but never pulled closer than a five-point margin.

Senior guard Chase Cox hit a basket with 4.6 seconds remaining and Michael Coulter stole the in-bounds pass and converted two free throws as Taylor County posted a 61-57 road victory vs. Elizabethtown on Friday night.

The Cardinals fought back from a 12-point second-half deficit with a 10-0 run to end the third quarter and took the lead when Coulter fed Lloyd Stotts for a left-wing three-pointer at 2:09 in the fourth.

The Panthers knotted the score at 57-57 on a Chris Ulis free throw with 13.8 seconds left and just before Cox’s length-of-the-court drive.

Don't be surprised if North Hardin captures the boys' and girls' Fifth Region basketball championships in 2009.

Adair County was expected to repeat last year in the Fifth Region and Bardstown is the pre-season favorite this year. But not since North Hardin won three straight titles (2001-2003) has a school won back-to-back crowns.

North Hardin adds Greg Johnson, who did not play last season, to LaRod King and Roosevelt Emerson to get the slight edge over Bardstown and Adair County.
