  • Lots of basketball hang-over

    Basketball is a 365-day thing (366 during leap years) in Kentucky, and last week’s Fifth Region Tournament championship game brought out a bunch of notes and happenings.

    Davis up for top national award

    Campbellsville High School head coach Tim Davis is a finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year.

    The awards’ banquet is scheduled for the week of June 19-23 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

  • CU teams fall in MSC Tourney...

    The regular-season champion Campbellsville University women’s and men’s teams fell in the Mid-South Conference Tournament championship games on Saturday and Sunday in Frankfort.

    The Lady Tigers (31-2) fell behind by double digits and fought back before losing to the University of the Cumberlands 73-68 on Saturday while the Tiger men (26-7) beat St. Catharine 68-62 on Saturday before dropping the title tilt 68-62 to Georgetown College on Sunday.

  • Eagles crush Dragons 70-39 in...

    The Campbellsville High School Eagles avenged a one-point Feb. 16 loss at Green County with a 70-39 shellacking of the Dragons in the opening game of the Boys’ Fifth Region Tournament on Wednesday night at Nelson County.

    The Eagles sprinted out to a 9-4 advantage and never trailed in posting their 25th win in 29 outings.

    The Dragons (13-15) did creep within six in the second quarter.

    However, an Aaron Schwoebel basket and two free throws around Thomas Downs’ put-back preceded a pair of right-side three-pointers from Myan Rice and the rout was on.

  • CHS plays North in Fifth finals...

    Campbellsville High's Eagles will battle North Hardin for the Fifth Region Tournament championship on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Nelson County High School.

    The Eagles bested Elizabethtown 75-58 in the semfinals on Sunday afternoon while North Hardin also conquered LaRue County by 17 points.

  • Marion, E-town move into finals...

    Marion County attempted to knock off two-time defending champion Elizabethtown at the Girls' Fifth Region Tournament in Hart County on Saturday.

    * Marion County’s Lady Knights raced away from a 2-2 tie and scored the next 12 points and went on to eliminate Green County 76-60 in Friday’s first semi-final game at the Girls’ Fifth Region Tournament in Munfordville.

    Makayla Epps led the Lady Knights with 21 points while Brooke Roberts added 16, Kyvin Goodin-Rogers 14 and Bre Elder 10.

  • Lady Tigers in finals, CU men in...

    The Lady Tigers of Campbellsville University raced out to a 20-2 lead en route to a 82-59 romp over Lindsey Wilson College in a Mid-South Conference Tournament semifinal game on Friday afternoon.

    The Lady Tigers (31-1), who played Cumberlands on Saturday for the championship, were led by Whitney Ballinger’s 28 points and 13 rebounds.

    Forwards Courtney Danis and Wendi Messer also reached double figures with 14 points while Melly Heaton added 10.

  • Eagles conquer Cards for boys...

    Campbellsville High School led from start to finish and captured the 20th District Tournament 74-53 over Taylor County on Saturday night on the Eagles’ home court inside Paul J. Coop Gymnasium.

    The Eagles used a 6-0 beginning on hoops by Bryton Taylor, Aaron Schwoebel and Jordan Percell and held a 14-3 advantage after a Ben Janes’ left-wing three-pointer.

    After a pair of Lloyd Stotts’ free throws to start the second quarter, Taylor County could get no closer than eight the rest of the game.

  • Card season ends with LaRue...

    Taylor County High School’s Cardinals had a pair of nine-point, first-half leads but could never pull away and dropped a 40-38 decision to LaRue County in the first round of the Fifth Region Tournament on Thursday night at Nelson County.

    The Cardinals (17-14) led 13-4 after Tyler Moss’ early seven points and still held a 15-6 advantage when Matt McDonald hit two free throws after being fouled on a put-back.

  • Green, Marion, Nelson and E-town...

    District champions Green County, Marion County, Nelson County and Elizabethtown posted first-round wins at the Fifth Region Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Hart County.

    Sophomore Micah Jones scored 30 points as Green County’s Lady Dragons pulled away from Bardstown 63-49 and Marion County’s Lady Knights out-scored North Hardin 23-11 in the third quarter en route to a 59-38 triumph in Monday night games in the Fifth Region Tournament at Hart County.
