  • Lady Cards blank Madison...

    Taylor County led 28-0 at the first-quarter stop en route to a 69-16 shellacking over Madison Southern on Saturday afternoon.

    Juniors MeLeigha Pollock and Cayla Rucker paced coach Jenny Jessie's Lady Cardinals with 21 and 17 points, respectively.

    The Lady Cardinals (5-2) play Bardstown in the Coca-Cola/Campbellsville University Holiday Classic on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Campbellsville High School. The girls' teams are off on Sunday before the tourney ends with games on Monday and Tuesday.

  • Crimson controls Cards 77-59 in...

    Louisville Manual tallied 19 of the game's first 21 points and downed Taylor County 77-59 in a quarterfinal game in the 28th Annual Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic at Fairdale High School on Saturday.

    The Cardinals did fight back to cut the deficit to 10 (23-12) with Michael Coulter tallying seven first-quarter points and trailed only by six (24-18) after Chase Cox hit Leonard Macon for a basket and then hit a three-pointer off the left wing.

  • Lady Tigers capture close Hawaii...

    Campbellsville University's win streak increased to 11 as the Lady Tigers won a pair of games over the weekend in the Surf N Hoops Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.

    The Lady Tigers (11-1) overcame a 15-point half-time deficit and rallied to win 90-84 over Waldorf (Iowa) College on Friday in the first round.

    Campbellsville jumped out to a 19-11 lead with 15:50 in the first half and appeared to be on their way to an easy win, but Waldorf rallied by scoring nine straight points to take the lead at 20-19 with 14:30 to go in the first half.

  • Lady Eagles drop two in Queen...

    Campbellsville's Lady Eagles lost its first two games in the Queen City Classic over the weekend in Somerset.

    The Lady Eagles fell to the host Lady Jumpers 55-32 on Saturday and were defeated by Estill County 53-41 on Sunday despite holding a 30-29 lead on Destiny Wilson's three free throws at 5:06 of the third quarter.

    Bronte Karr had 11 points while Danielle Morris and Amber Gamboa had eight apiece.

  • Cards come back to knock off...

    Taylor County overcame an 18-point half-time deficit and pinned a 56-50 loss on host Fairdale in the first game of the 28th Annual Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic on Thursday afternoon.

    The Cardinals (4-1) rode the back of senior Chase Cox, who recorded his second consecutive 35-point game a six-day period in Jefferson County.

    “In the second half, the 1-2-2 (zone defense) got us back in it,” offered TCHS coach Troy Young, “and you look better when you make shots.

    With last week's retirements of both local superintendents, can't we at least talk about possibly merging the schools?

    I'm not saying next week, next month or even next year, but wouldn't it be academically, financially and athletically advantageous to do so?

  • Too much Hartfield for Taylor

    The Lady Dragons of Green County remained one of two undefeated girls’ teams (along with E-town) in the Fifth Region with a 63-42 triumph at Taylor County on Thursday night.

    GCHS (5-0) led 9-2 after seven straight points from freshman point guard Micah Jones and went out to a 20-4 advantage after two baskets from Morgan Deaton, five points from Megan Hartfield and another Jones hoop.

  • Tigers slide to 5-5 with road...

    The Campbellsville University Tiger men's basketball team saw its record drop to 5-5 with a pair of losses in the Freed-Hardeman Classic in Henderson, Tenn. last weekend.

    Campbellsville could not overcome a hot shooting first half (23-28, 82.1 percent) by third ranked Union (Tenn.) University and lost 86-65 on Friday night.

    The Tigers didn't score until the 15:16 mark in the first half after Union went up 13-0.

  • Fudge follow sends Indians past...

    Nick Fudge's only field goal in the game came just before the final buzzer and propelled Adair County past Campbellsville 54-53 on Tuesday night in Paul J. Coop Gymnasium.

    The Eagles led 42-30 with three minutes left in the third quarter but hit only one of their next seven free throws and were 3-11 for the game.

    Morehead State signee Darren Ballou led Adair County (5-0) with 25 points while Kyle Sandusky added 10.

    Bryton Taylor paced CHS with 21 points while Thomas Downs and Matthew Davis had 10 apiece.

  • Hot-shooting Cards spank Shawnee...

    Taylor County hit nine of 16 three-pointers en route to an 82-74 victory over Louisville Shawnee in the Clem Haskins-Robert Graves Classic at Western High School on Saturday.

    Chase Cox hit four treys and finished with 35 points while Lloyd Stotts was 5-5 from behind the arc and 23 points and Leonard Macon totaled 18 points and nine rebounds.

    Stotts and Cox also had five boards apiece and Michael Coulter handed out six assists.

    The Cardinals play Fairdale in the King of the Bluegrass on Thursday at 4:30.
