  • Little League District starts...

    Campbellsville’s Little League All Stars will begin defense of their 11-year-old state championship on Saturday at 6:00 on Saturday night at Idle Hour Park in Springfield as the Little League District 5 Tournaments begin.
    The 10-year-old Campbellsville squad kicks off the tournament at noon on Saturday.
    Should the 12-year-olds lose, they would play an elimination game in the losers’ bracket at 3:00 on Sunday, With a win, coach Garin Hash’s squad will battle the Glasgow-Adair County victor on Sunday at 7.

  • Angels sweep Reds at Miller Park


    The Angels, with a regular-season record of 12-4 swept the Reds 18-6 on Monday  and 27-6 on Tuesday to claim the Minor League (9-10-year-old) baseball championship at Miller Park.
    The Reds made the best-of-three championship series with a 10-6 worksheet.

  • Brent Cochrane Memorial swim meet

    Three teams (Central Kentucky Tiger Sharks, Lake Cumberland Hurricanes and a team from Fort Knox) with 55 total swimmers competed in the two-day meet on the June 14-15 weekend at the Miller Park pool.

    Tthree additional teams already booked for next summer’s meet (dates to be determined).

    CKTS’ Sarah Overly earned a state-qualifying time of 5:15.22 on Sunday in the 400-meter freestyle.

    Cochrane was a former CKTS coach who was killed in an automobile wreck while coaching here.

  • Ramsey brings in huge cat at...


    J. Ramsey has caught more than his share of fish — throughout the state and south.
    But, on Friday afternoon, he caught a huge flathead catfish (just under 50 pounds) within a half-mile of his home at City Lake, where he still fishes at least four times a week.

    Ramsey, 27, used a spinning rod and a bass crank bait to make the catch. It weighed just under 50 pounds.

    Your “sources” are always your most informative people and usually the ones that keep you from forgetting something.
    Wayne Baxter has forgotten more about sports than most of us will ever know — especially about University of Kentucky athletics.
    The retired 4-H agent reminded me last week that the Little League State Tournament at Miller Park in 2004 consisted of a player who led the University of Louisville to two consecutive College World Series appearances.
