  • Knights knock down Eagles 75-34

    Marion County led 22-1 at the first-quarter stop and never looked back en route to a 75-34 rout of the Campbellsville High School Eagles on Friday night.
    Mason Wethington led the Eagles (0-6) with nine points while Demontez Smith had seven.
    Carlos Litsey and Brandon Knopp had 14 apiece for the Knights (7-1).

  • Lady Dragons roll over Lady Cards

    Green County High School’s Lady Dragons used a run of 12-2 in the first quarter, a 24-4 spurt in the second frame and a 14-2 start in the third period to race past home-standing Taylor County 71-31 on Friday night.
    Green County (5-2) was led by its backcourt of junior Rachel Marr and Western Kentucky University-bound Micah Jones with 20 and 16 points, respectively, with sophomore Kayla Bale adding 11.
    Senior Rachel Riggs led Taylor County with 13 points.

  • Cards dump Dragons, improve to 4-2

    Taylor County High School’s boys’ team had a big enough lead to overcome an 18-3 Green County spurt in the third quarter and down the visiting Dragons 68-54 on Friday night.
    The Cardinals (4-2) built a 23-point cushion (46-23) behind the play of the TCHS trifecta of senior Trae Wells (21), eighth-grader Quentin Goodin (18) and sophomore Caleb Wigginton (13), who combined for 52 TCHS points. Senior Lucas Bradshaw also had nine for the Cardinals.
    Senior Levi Rattliff paced the Dragons (1-5) with 19 points.

  • TC boys, Adair girls post district triumphs

    Lucas Bradshaw got his own offensive rebound and sank two free throws with 1.9 seconds remaining to send Taylor County past home-standing Adair County 48-46 on Friday night.
    Bradshaw led the Cards with 15 points while freshman Quentin Goodin finished with 14, including two three-pointers and four free throws in the final frame. Trae Wells had 10 before fouling out at 3:54.
    Seventh-grade subs Kel Stotts and Chance Melton led the Indians with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

  • Lady Cards come back to down CHS

    Campbellsville led for the first 28 minutes, but Taylor County’s Lady Cardinals used a 16-0 run en route to a 52-41 home victory over the Lady Eagles on Tuesday night.
    CHS (0-3) built a 20-15 half-time lead behind Tiffany Slone’s seven points and four by Heather Watson and a three-pointer from Graison Biggs.
    Coach Cameron Jackson’s club overcame its third tie at 33-33 when Watson nailed a right-wing trey with 4:38 left in the cross-town shoot-out.

  • Cards crush Eagles 69-35

    Taylor County scored the first five points and used runs of 12-0 and 10-0 and never looked back from a 27-10 cushion in posting a 69-35 triumph over cross-town rival Campbellsville in boys’ high school action on Tuesday night.
    Coach Troy Young’s Cardinals (2-1) were paced by Trae Wells’ 20 points, which included TCHS’ first eight points.

  • Lady Cards upend Commanderettes 64-54

    Taylor County’s Lady Cardinals came out of the gate with a 5-0 start, rebounded from a 12-8 deficit and downed visiting Washington County 64-54 on Tuesday night.
    Senior Rachel Riggs tallied three early points and junior Savannah Farmer had a put-back as coach Jenny Jessie’s club led 5-0 in the first two minutes.
    However, Washington County used a 12-3 run to lead 12-8 despite a Riggs’ three-point play.

  • Caverna edges Lady Eagles 52-50

    Campbellsville High School’s Lady Eagles led at the first three quarter stops before falling 52-50 at Caverna on Tuesday night.
    Coach Cameron Jackson’s team   held 10-7, 24-15 and 33-32 advantages before being out-scored 20-17 in the final eight minutes in the season opener for CHS.
    Caverna (2-0) crushed Fort Knox 68-25 a night earlier.
    Senior Tiffany Slone led the Lady Eagles with 23 points while junior Brittany Vaught added 12.
    Campbellsville plays at East Jessamine tonight and will visit Taylor County on Tuesday.

  • Cards dominate last two-plus quarters

    Defending 20th District champion Taylor County began its boys’ basketball season with a 70-55 home-court triumph over Washington County on Tuesday.
    Coach Troy Young’s Cardinals trailed for the first 10 minutes of the contest before Caleb Wigginton’s three-point play, on an assist from Quentin Goodin, put TCHS up for good at 26-23.
    The sophomore Wigginton had 19 of his game-high 25 points in the first half as Taylor County led 30-26 at the intermission.

  • High school basketball tips off Tuesday

    The easy selection when picking the best teams and players in 2011-12 Fifth Region basketball is choosing Marion County’s Lady Knights to repeat as the girls’ champion for a third year.
    Coach Trent Milby’s club does return three of the region’s and state’s best players in juniors Makayla Epps and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers (both committed to Louisville) and senior Bre Elder (signed with Dayton).
