It would be difficult to ever forget their faces ... faces I watched that day from behind the safe impersonality of my camera's lens.

They were the faces of the families of our local Kentucky National Guard members who were leaving for Operation Enduring Freedom three years ago this month ... parents and grandparents ... children and spouses.

The soldiers' faces were solemn and stoic. They were leaving to do their jobs. Their duty. But it was their families' faces that I remember best.

Watching our kids grow up, we always wonder what they will grow up to be. We try to help them, but eventually it will be their own decision. We can only hope and pray that they will make good choices as they get older.

That brings me to Pfc. Montrell Durham. Montrell was a graduate of Campbellsville High School, where he played football. He liked playing, but as his father, I don't think he had the drive or motivation to be an outstanding player.

Someone somewhere said that information only brings us closer to our ignorance. Misinformation, it turns out, is far worse than some information, or no information at all.

We find that to be true in national and state politics where, evidently, you can make all manner of claims without documentation. It's evidently becoming a more and more acceptable practice. It's a game of who can misinform better than the other guy.

But misinformation certainly isn't isolated to national and state politics.

Domestic violence is behavior - emotional, psychological, physical or sexual abuse - that one person in an intimate relationship uses in order to control the other.

DV takes many different forms and includes behaviors such as threats, name-calling, isolation, withholding of money, actual or threatened physical harm and sexual assault. Most domestic violence is committed against women by their male partners: 91 to 95 percent of all adult domestic violence assaults are perpetrated by men against their female partners.

We have a clear choice for life in the races for governor, attorney general and state auditor in the upcoming election.

Gov. Ernie Fletcher has not only spoken for life throughout his career as a politician, he has voted for innocent life on every occasion presented to him. Steve Beshear has been the exact opposite, not only throughout his political career, but he proudly proclaims his support of abortion.

In a few weeks, the commonwealth of Kentucky will be hosting elections. As usual, we listen to all the criticism one candidate has for another. Most of this is half-truths. Anything goes that makes the other candidate look bad.

For the past term, we have had nothing but controversy coming out of Frankfort. This governor was elected on the promise to cleanup Frankfort. All we have had is more mudslinging and waste of taxpayer dollars. This governor has showed no respect for our laws and did pretty much what he wanted, abusing the office he swore to uphold.

It was Saturday night/Sunday morning a little after 1 a.m. Two female friends and myself had stopped on the side of the road in front of Lowe's to pick up a sack of chips and a box of cigarettes that had fallen off the top of my friend's vehicle.

I saw a cop car in front of me in the parking lot. As I drove off, he followed in behind me and pulled me over as soon as I turned onto Broadway. I pull over and I saw another police car coming to assist. As soon as the officer exited his car, he asked to see my hands. He walked up and said my license plate was not working.
