Aunt Pat would have been 74 on Dec. 7.

Uncle Al, Pat's husband, died many, many years ago. They were only married 13 years and Pat had no children. My husband was her closest kin.

During the 17 years we've lived in Florida, 40 miles from Pat, my husband cared for Pat as if he were her son. She loved him and depended on him. He loved her, even if she did drive him nuts.

Three Campbellsville men are among Kentucky Baptist Convention President William Henard's appointments for committee chairmen. Each will serve for one year.

My soul was in anguish. I knew exactly how King David felt when he wrote his laments, wondering how long he had to wait for God to answer his prayers.

I was 11 years old and I had been waiting my entire life to shave my legs. However, my mom said I needed to wait, but what do moms know? I had a forest growing on my lower limbs that needed razing - right then.

Taylor County High School drama students will present "A Cardinal Christmas Celebration" on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Students will stage "Stocking Stuffers," a one-act Christmas play by Geff Moyer. Other entertainment will include monologs and music.

Refreshments will be served.

The event begins at 7 p.m. in the TCHS gymnasium and cafeteria. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children age 3 and under will be admitted for free.

The Kentucky Baptist Convention's Committee on Nominations recently announced its nominations for members of the Kentucky Baptist Convention Mission Board and the boards of several affiliated institutions and agencies.

The nominations were approved by messengers of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, who convened their annual meeting Nov. 13-14 at Severns Valley Baptist Church.

These chilly night I find myself looking for soup recipes. I try new ones every year, but more often than not, I go back to the same old favorites. Here are two of them.

The first one, Sausage-Bean Chowder, is a long-time favorite of my family. It smells absolutely wonderful when it's cooking and is really delicious. It tastes even better the second day. My dad used to like this soup so much he requested it for a Christmas present one year. I made and froze 4 quarts, and he carried it back to Illinois in a cooler, where he rationed it and made it last a long time.

Last November someone wrote me a letter - no return address, no signature. I've been holding on to it all year, reading it every so often.

It's a heartbreaking letter and I hadn't known how to respond to it. I'm not sure I do now, but I feel compelled to tell this woman's story. Maybe by sharing it, the letter writer will find some peace or happiness or whatever it is that she needs most.

When my youngest daughter was 15 she began an unrelenting campaign to pierce her eyebrow.

She once handed me seven pages of documented Internet research, complete with a list of "35 Reasons to Say Yes." ("It will not harm any living creature." "I won't wear the eyebrow ring to any formal occasion." "It is better than piercing my tongue.")

I found it amusing and I admired her persistence - until the Day of the Pringles.

We were at the market and as she followed me up and down the aisles, she jabbered non-stop about getting her eyebrow pierced.
