    Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Harmon were honored with a surprise 60th wedding anniversary celebration on Sunday, Oct. 19 at Creek Side Restaurant in Campbellsville.

    Stephanie Gail Noland has been selected as a finalist in the 1999 Pre-Teen Kentucky Scholarship and Recognition Program.

    Betty Jane Gorin-Smith was guest speaker for a prayer breakfast sponsored by the Campbellsville Business and Professional Women's Club.

    Oct. 14, 1999

    David Corbin, 54, of Campbellsville is retiring in just a few short weeks after 31 years as a Kentucky State Police trooper. For 26 of those years, he has given drivers' tests.

    Campbellsville University's homecoming 1999 revolves around the theme "Where Would We Be Without You?" and is scheduled for Oct. 15-16.

    Campbellsville Lions Club member Mel Gilbert was recently selected as the new president of the organization.

    Patricia M. Claywell was recently promoted to E-3 in the United States Air Force.

    Natalia Gowin was crowned Campbellsville Middle School's homecoming queen at halftime of the Eagles' game Sept. 28.

    Suzanne Sowards, a 1997 graduate of Taylor County High School, is performing in the first production of theatre season at the University of Kentucky.

    Taylor County Hospital Rehabilitation Services hosted an open house on Sunday, Aug. 29.

    Sept. 30, 1999

    The brand new Campbellsville Post Office was officially introduced to the community with a ribbon cutting and open house Sunday, Sept. 19.

    The Rev. Robert Leon Graham, 61, of Churchill Drive, Campbellsville, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, in Campbellsville.

    Lee's Famous Recipe contributed $1,222 to the Campbellsville High Marching Eagle Band as part of the Sept. 14 CHS Eagle Band Day.

    Fifty-seven people helped raise $3,677.30 this past Saturday for the March of Dimes WalkAmerica.

    A weekend featuring a Civil War re-enactment as well as basket making, woodworking and music is planned at the former home of Kentucky authors Janice Holt Giles and Henry Giles.

    Jimmy Cravens has been named the new executive director of the Campbellsville Housing and Redevelopment Authority, following the regular meeting of the board of commissioners last Tuesday afternoon.

    Joshua P. Pike recently completed the cadet basic training program at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.

    Campbellsville High School's football field will be named in honor of Dave Fryrear.

    Clay Nelson celebrated his fifth birthday July 24 at his home in Sedalia, Ky. He is the son of Greg and Lisa Nelson.

    Lee Allen Kendall, formerly of Campbellsville, recently graduated with honors from Cumberland University.

    Justin L. Phillips graduated from the United States Marine Corp. on Sept. 10 as a private first class.

    For the fifth year in a row, Campbellsville University has been named as one of America's Best Colleges, by U.S.News & World Report, a national magazine with more than 2 million circulation.

    James C. Claypool will speak at the Hiestand House Museum this Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

    Pleasant Run Baptist Church observed its 117th year Sunday, July 18 with a homecoming and anniversary celebration at the church grounds on Pleasant Run Church Road.

    Pauline Thomas, 87, of Elk Horn Road, Campbellsville, died Thursday, August 26, 1999, in Campbellsville.

    Roy and Wanda Bramel of Campbellsville will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary on Labor Day weekend.

    Kristen Brockman was selected Taylor County Junior Miss for 2000.

    Katy Sweeney of Liberty was crowned 1999 Miss Taylor County Fair Saturday night.

    David W. Fryrear Sr., 63, of Cox Cove in Campbellsville, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, in Louisville from burns suffered in a fire on his houseboat on Green River Lake.

    Ruby Curry, 92, of Elmhurst Drive, Campbellsville, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, in Campbellsville.

    Ronnie Hord and Wayne Wells started a sideline business in 1969 that has turned into a 30-year venture with H & W Sport shop.

    While corn, tobacco and other crops in most areas of the state are drying up because of an extended drought, Steve Doss says most Taylor County farmers have been lucky. "We've gotten rain when we have needed it," said Doss, area program director for the Kentucky Farm Bureau.

    Phillip and Geneva Corbin will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Sunday, Aug. 15.

    Fourteen girls will be competing for the title of Taylor County Junior Miss this summer.

    Chainsaws were the order of the day Wednesday after a severe thunderstorm swept through Taylor County the previous evening, carrying winds in excess of 70 miles per hour.

    School begins Monday, Aug. 2 for students in the Campbellsville and Taylor County school systems.

    Angela Gossett, daughter of R.T. and Wanda Gossett of Campbellsville, has been named to the dean's list at Warner Southern College in Lake Wales, Fla. for the spring semester.
