Campbellsville residents recently attended the DAR grave marking ceremony for Revolutionary War soldier Sgt. Thomas Tipton. Attending were Claudette Patton, Charlene Kelley, Shirley Hansford, Carol Patton, Caroline Patton, Paul Patton and James Patton.
Tipton served with the Virginia troops and was engaged at the siege of Yorktown and the surrender of Cornwallis to General George Washington.
He later lived in Kentucky and Ohio, where he died in 1841 at 111. He is buried near Urbana, Ohio.
