Campbellsville schools'...

Work to reconfigure the Campbellsville Independent School system's buildings is about halfway complete.

Superintendent Mike Deaton said classrooms are being physically moved and floors sealed and waxed in the process.

He said new offices are more or less set up and phone lines have been moved. As such, if someone calls the elementary school, he said, the call now rings at the former middle school, which is where students in preschool through third grade will attend class as of August.

Local churches support Boy Scouts

Although some Kentucky churches are severing ties with the Boy Scouts of America in wake of the organization's recent decision to allow openly gay members to join, churches in Taylor County are continuing to support local Boy Scout troops and won't be closing their doors to them anytime soon.

"We're here to give these boys some good leadership skills and teach them valuable life lessons, and that's what it's all about," Mark Sanford, leader of local Boy Scout Troop 616, said.

CU honors local teachers

Campbellsville University

Campbellsville University honored 160 teachers from 59 school districts throughout Kentucky, including several from the three districts in Campbellsville, with CU Excellence in Teaching awards on Saturday, May 11, at Winters Dining Hall in the E. Bruce Heilman Student Center Complex on the CU campus.

Locals honored for achievement...

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College's honors reception to recognize outstanding academic achievement was Friday, April 26, at State Theater in Elizabethtown.

Several categories of achievement were honored, including Honors Students; Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges; Program Awards and Scholarships, and several Taylor County residents were honored.

TCHS thanks Project Graduation...

On Friday, May 28, at Taylor County High School, 257 young people received their high school diplomas. On Saturday, May 29, those same young people, now high school graduates, woke up - alive and well - to start the next chapter in their lives. This was because, in large part, to the success of Project Graduation.

Hovious graduates from Brescia...

Jennifer Lee Hovious of Campbellsville graduated from Brescia University on May 11. She received a Bachelor of Social Work and graduated summa cum laude.

Hovious also received a High Scholastic Achievement Award at honors convocation on April 28.

Brescia University is a coeducational, Catholic, liberal arts university located in downtown Owensboro.

Since 1950, Brescia has been educating the Owensboro community and beyond through traditional, online, evening and weekend class formats.

Hair loss specialist available...

 

Didi Marie of Louisville recently attended a hair loss certification class in Atlanta, Ga. Marie is a certified hair loss specialist, which allows her to work with dermatologists and oncologists.

As such, Marie is available for referrals to help Campbellsville residents.

Marie was encouraged to participate in the Look Good, Feel Better class through the American Cancer Society to help women who are suffering hair loss as they undergo chemotherapy.

Taylor County FFA hosts annual...

 

Taylor County FFA hosted its annual chapter banquet on Tuesday, May 14.

The banquet is the time of year where many awards are presented. Those who competed were recognized.

Member of The Year was given to Michala Caulk. The chapter Leadership award was given to Winnie Cheuvront and Star Greenhand was given to Kyle Dockery.

Those awards are the highest a chapter can bestow upon its members.

Horizontal stripes aren't flattering, the old fashion saying goes. But that's just not true, according to the owners of two Main Street clothing boutiques.

They also say gold and dresses are back and it's OK to mix patterns and stripes.

About 25 people heard makeup and fashion tips from Pam Richardson and Mashonda Lanier of Merle Norman and Brianna Burden and Cherrish Sharlow of Awaken Boutique.

The four taught a free fashion class last Thursday at Taylor County Public Library.

CMS receives MAC grant

 

Campbellsville Middle School students recently learned about different cultures, thanks for a McDonald's MAC Grant.

Lisa Kearney's students experienced an activity to learn the different elements of cultures. Students researched different countries and presented information.

The funds to implement the activity were provided through a McDonald's MAC Grant.

The grants are monetary awards to help teachers incorporate hands-on activities in their classroom to make their lessons more meaningful to students.
