CHS students learn about cultural diversity

A Cultural Diversity in Literature workshop was presented at the Campbellsville High School 21st Century after school program recently by English teacher Andrea Lawler.

Students attending learned about many books that addressed diversity issues. Students were allowed to choose a book to keep.

A tea party was hosted to introduce students to teas from different countries and the cultural practice of having "tea and biscuits."

Hannah Ferguson won a Kindle Fire.

Franklin earns All-Region Season softball honors

Taylor County High School’s 29-victory softball season produces one All-Fifth Region player as senior left-fielder Haley Franklin was named to the 16-player squad on Thursday.
Each coach could nominate up to five of their own players, but could not vote for any.
Region champ Central Hardin had four players on the team, led by Player of the Year, senior Jordan Lasley.

Holtzclaw is massage therapist in Lebanon

Margie Livers Holtzclaw of Campbellsville has joined the staff at Massage on Main in Lebanon.

Holtzclaw graduated from Massage Therapeutics in Louisville in April. She specializes in relaxation, deep tissue, sports massage, orthopedic work, injury work, carpel tunnel, frozen shoulder, patella tendonitis, sciatica and scoliosis, strains and sprains. She is also certified in Kinesio taping.

Washington County teachers win EIT awards

Washington County School System teachers - one with Campbellsville ties - recently received Campbellsville University Excellence in Teaching awards.

Christie Metcalf of Washington County Elementary School, a CU alumna, was one of those recently honored.

Metcalf is a fourth-grade science teacher at Washington County Elementary school, where she has taught since 1999.

Campbellsville High School recently released its honor roll for the fourth nine-weeks grading period. Students listed follow.

All A's

Freshmen - Alex Bailey, Heather Bailey, Latia Barnett, Cyan Berry, Paige Dabney, Kathryn Doss, Ruben Felix, Katelynn French, Rosa Garcia, Austin Hash, Katherine Lefever, Makenzie Murrell, Clayton Russell and Andrew Sabo.

Sophomores - Abigail Hieneman, Christan Hodges, Lauren Rinehart, Claudia Rogers, Cassie Squires and Masi Wilson.

Taylor County FFA hosts annual banquet

Taylor County FFA hosted its annual chapter banquet on Tuesday, May 14.

The banquet is the time of year where many awards are presented. Those who competed were recognized.

Member of The Year was given to Michala Caulk. The chapter Leadership award was given to Winnie Cheuvront and Star Greenhand was given to Kyle Dockery.

Those awards are the highest a chapter can bestow upon its members.

Locals named to Morehead dean's list

The Morehead State University dean's list for the 2013 spring semester includes Houston Alexander Bragg and Jordan Rainwater of Campbellsville.

To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled on a full-time basis and achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the current semester.

TCES names Good Deed winners

Taylor County Elementary School recently named its Good Deed winners for the week of May 13.

They are, from left, Caleb Russell, Carter Stewart, Brayden Janes, Scott Hall, Jadon Collison and Molly Hughes.

Beth Young has joined the team at Transforming Edgez Salon. She is a master cosmetologist and former salon owner of Forever Young Salon & Spa.

She specializes in dimensional coloring and highlighting, modern cuts, event hair and makeup and body waxing.
