If you see something, say something

At a recent Homeland Security meeting, I heard about the "If you see something, say something" campaign. The initiative was created to encourage people to report suspicious activity in their community.

The "See Something, Say Something" campaign was developed to address terrorism happening in our country. While it's hard for me to imagine that there could be terroristic activity going on around here, I understand that it's not outside the realm of possibility.

The advice given by this initiative should be considered by everyone.

On Friday, May 28, at Taylor County High School, 257 young people received their high school diplomas. On Saturday, May 29, those same young people, now high school graduates, woke up - alive and well - to start the next chapter in their lives. This was because, in large part, to the success of Project Graduation.

Facility appreciates police assistance

I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Campbellsville Police Department, and especially officer Bart Gilpin, for a job well done during a stressful event that took place at Jackson Street Towers.

Last weekend, we had a resident who was missing. After searching and realizing we needed further help, officer Bart Gilpin responded. He was very knowledgeable in the steps that needed to be followed while being very kind and patient.

Police officer's murder was 'evil'

If what investigators have hypothesized about the death of Bardstown Police Officer Jason Scott Ellis is true, there is only one way to describe the still unknown killer: diabolical.

Ellis was shot numerous times and killed in the early hours of Saturday, May 25, at a ramp to the Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County.

Investigators theorize someone put debris, the nature of which they have not identified, across the road. When Ellis, who was off duty and on his way home, got out of his car to try to clear the road, he was shot from an elevated vantage point.

Farmers can help soil quality

The Natural Resources Conservation Service's Conservation Stewardship Program will provide about $175 million in funding for up to 12.6 million additional acres enrollment this year.

Although applications are accepted all year, farmers, ranchers and forestland owners interested in CSP should submit applications by June 14 to their local NRCS office to ensure they are considered for this year's funding.

Crusade for Children

 

Residents donated nearly $27,600 to the annual Crusade for Children fundraiser at roadblocks over the weekend.

Campbellsville and Taylor County Fire & Rescue personnel and volunteers manned the roadblocks.

Money used will go toward helping special needs children in Taylor County and across the state.

 

TCES names Good Deed winners

 

Taylor County Elementary School recently named its Good Deed winners for the week of May 13.

They are, from left, Caleb Russell, Carter Stewart, Brayden Janes, Scott Hall, Jadon Collison and Molly Hughes.

CHS students learn about cultural diversity

 

A Cultural Diversity in Literature workshop was presented at the Campbellsville High School 21st Century after school program recently by English teacher Andrea Lawler.

Students attending learned about many books that addressed diversity issues. Students were allowed to choose a book to keep.

A tea party was hosted to introduce students to teas from different countries and the cultural practice of having "tea and biscuits."

Hannah Ferguson won a Kindle Fire.

Gettin' Fit

 

About 50 people biked and walked to school on Wednesday, May 8, as part of Get Fit Taylor County week.

Participants met at the Taylor County Judicial Center and walked a mile to Campbellsville Middle School.

Campbellsville Mayor Tony Young and Taylor County Judge/Executive Eddie Rogers, volunteers and parents participated.
