Inmate charged with assaulting jail staff

 

A Campbellsville man currently incarcerated at the Taylor County Detention Center has been charged with assaulting a jail staff member while in custody.

John Kessinger, 55, of 1356 Saloma Road, was charged last Monday at 12:30 p.m.

According to Kessinger's arrest warrant, he allegedly injured Sgt. William Milby when charging out of his jail cell on April 14.

Kessinger is being incarcerated on a theft charge.

Birth Announcements for May 9

LaRee and Jansen Shively of Campbellsville announce the birth of a son, Jayvian Creed Bell Shively, at 8:20 a.m. on April 12 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. He weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19.25 inches long.

Grandparents are Larry and Annette Bell and Jan Shively, all of Campbellsville.

Great-grandparents are the late Creed and Mrytle Bell, Coy and Estelle Morris and Jimmy and Eula Rae Shively.

Veterans Memorial Park to get new playground equipment

Children who play at Veterans Memorial Park playground will soon get a treat.

A new piece of playground equipment that can accommodate about 50 children will soon be installed there. And the equipment will be made entirely from recycled plastics.

Magistrates agreed to purchase the equipment on Tuesday night at their regular Taylor County Fiscal Court meeting.

Dowling, Arnold to wed

 

Natalie Dowling and Blake Arnold of Lexington announce their engagement.

Dowling is the daughter of Ricky and Valerie Dowling of Campbellsville.

She is a graduate of Taylor County High School and University of Kentucky. She is employed by the Fayette County school system.

Arnold is the son of Eddie and Pam Arnold of Grayson.

He is a graduate of East Carter High School and Kentucky Community & Technical College System. He is a respiratory therapist at University of Kentucky Hospital.

Up, Up and Away!

Though there wasn't much flying to be had, children still had their heads in the clouds on Saturday.

Taylor County Airport hosted its annual Airport Day, with games, food, miniature airplanes and pilots on standby in case the clouds cleared and they were given the all clear to offer plane rides.

Missing person found

Campbellsville Police have found a Campbellsville man reported missing early Friday, May 17, morning.

According to a police report, police were searching for George Maynard, a 68-year-old white male who is 5'11 and weighs 200 pounds.

Maynard was reported as last seen at his home on Pitman Avenue at about 1 a.m. He was found at about 7:30 a.m.

County school employees to get 1-percent raise

The Taylor County Board of Education approved a 1-percent raise for certified and classified employees in the 2013-2014 fiscal year at its regular meeting last Tuesday. But according to Shannon H. Cox, representing the Taylor County Education Association, 1 percent is not enough.

A letter from the association, signed by Cox, was recently given to Board members. The letter pra-ised Superintendent Roger Cook’s vision and asked for a 5-percent raise for teachers who have worked hard to carry out that vision.

Seniors prepare for life after high school

 

With just days left until graduation, local high school seniors are busy deciding what they will do after receiving their diplomas. They're also soaking in their final high school experiences.

High school officials say there are many options for graduates to plan their lives after high school. And not all will find themselves headed to college.

Keith Benningfield, guidance counselor at Taylor County High School, said his school works very hard to ensure every student is ready for college or a career when they step out of TCHS.

Chandler's named Business of the Year

 

He knew his business was nominated, but says he never expected to win.

Sitting in his office supply company's showroom, Bill Chandler says he believes his business has stayed the test of time because the community has supported him.

And Chandler was recently shown just how much the community supports his business when Campbellsville/Taylor County Chamber of Commerce members voted his company, Chandler's Office Supply, the Business of the Year.
