Today's Opinions

  • Reader praises reporter's work

I write to commend Miss Calen McKinney for her coverage of important matters to readers of the Central Kentucky News-Journal.

Her front-page article about Campbellsville University in the July 23 issue is an illustration of her expert journalism. Miss Calen did not report "hearsay" information, but instead did much research in order for readers to be better informed about a major issue facing all of us in Taylor County and elsewhere.

  • Mayor answers criticism by former mayor

I appreciate Brenda Allen raising the issue of the city's surplus funds or, lack thereof, when I took office in January 2011.

My statements at the [Campbellsville/Taylor County] Chamber [of Commerce] luncheon were accurate. The city had no reserves when I took office in January 2011.

  • The good ol' days

Twenty-five years. It's hard to believe, and, as I look back, it just doesn't seem like it's been that long. Really, it doesn't even feel like I should be much older than 25, and it sure doesn't seem like I should be 25 years removed from my high school graduation.

  • Up, up and away

    Balloonist's Prayer

"The winds have welcomed you with softness.

The sun has blessed you with his warm hands.

You have flown so high and so well,

That God has joined you in laughter,

And he has set you gently back again,

Into the loving arms of Mother Earth."

  • K-Country Showdown showcases local talent

From The Band Perry to Willie and Waylon, the notes struck a chord with everyone who came out to listen to the 33rd annual K-Country Showdown last Thursday. Part of Campbellsville's Fourth of July Celebration, the event is popular among country music fans and supporters of local talent.

  • Wife thanks those who honored, remembered her husband

I am writing this letter to thank you for the coverage and the article that was written about my husband, Stephen Green. I want to give a special thank you to Calen McKinney for her choice of photo that was used in the initial coverage that appeared in the Monday, June 9, paper. The photo was non-intrusive and tactful, making it easy for the family and also our friends.

  • Library staff thanks helpers

The Taylor County Public Library would like to thank all of those that helped in any way during our first ever "How to Festival."

  • Woman thanks fire and rescue

I would like to thank Taylor County Fire & Rescue.

When I was desperate and helpless on May 22, as I was awakened by the powerful microburst storm that was taking away part of my house. The roof and telephone were gone with it. I couldn't call anywhere for help, when they came to my door and rescued me. Thank you.
