  • Kids show what really matters

On Thursday night, Oct. 12, the Taylor County High School volleyball team won its third consecutive District tournament title and in so doing became the first TCHS team to be undefeated in both regular and post-season play in the same year.

Congrats to the Lady Cardinals for an impressive accomplishment!

  • Was traffic stop racial profiling?

It was Saturday night/Sunday morning a little after 1 a.m. Two female friends and myself had stopped on the side of the road in front of Lowe's to pick up a sack of chips and a box of cigarettes that had fallen off the top of my friend's vehicle.

I saw a cop car in front of me in the parking lot. As I drove off, he followed in behind me and pulled me over as soon as I turned onto Broadway. I pull over and I saw another police car coming to assist. As soon as the officer exited his car, he asked to see my hands. He walked up and said my license plate was not working.

  • Justice ... For all or for some?

Have you ever wondered if the judicial system honestly works like everyone makes it out to? Recent events that have happened to my family have made me have second thoughts about the system that officials say is suppose to "protect" me.

These recent events have only caused problems for my family and I and have us thinking it protects the guilty more than the innocent.

  • Governor's race lacks substance

When my kids are fighting, they will sometimes try to divert my attention from the real issue at hand by pointing at a sibling in an accusatory tone, "Yeah, but he broke my toy last week and then he made a face at you behind your back."

Judging from the latest television commercials, it would appear as if our gubernatorial candidates have taken a lesson from my children.
