  • Why no alcohol sales on Sundays?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

  • System failing murder victim

Brianna Brucker is charged with murdering her 3-month-old son, Charles Brett Hayden Jr. So why would she be released with out posting any bond?

Brucker, 20, and her husband, Dale Brucker, 26, the boy’s stepfather, have been charged with her son’s death. Brianna Brucker was held in jail on a $100,000 cash bond, which was reduced last week to $50,000, unsecured.

Dale Brucker has requested that his $125,000 bond be reduced, but that request has been denied.

  • Taylor County — a great place to live

    The giggles were contagious.

As I waited for the event to start, I saw the children's excitement grow. It was palpable. They had their homemade, home-decorated buckets in tow, ready to hear the adults tell them "go."

  • Find happiness in the small things

"Daddy! Daddy! Look what I got," the little girl shouted with glee.

Every child was a winner at The Kid SpOt Center's second annual autism awareness event at Kid Wise Amusement on April 16. When their name was drawn for a door prize, the children rushed to the prize table to choose among several gift baskets overflowing with an assortment of educational toys, craft kits and candy.

  • He's alive!

Years ago when our son, Dave Jr., was about 7 or 8 years, he awoke early one Easter morning, but I was awake, and he immediately began singing the chorus of the Don Francisco song, "He's Alive."

"He's alive, yes he's alive, yes he's alive and I'm forgiven," Dave sang as he hopped out of bed.

At first, before I could understand what he was singing, I thought something was wrong with him; maybe he was having a bad dream or was sick and crying for help.

  • Reader supports Cave for PVA

It is my pleasure to endorse Bernie Cave for Property Valuation Administrator of Taylor County. He is a fine citizen of this county and has served in several offices.

Bernie worked for the Taylor County Conservation District for about 14 years. He also served with me on the Taylor County School Board for about 13 years.

  • My fork goes where?

It's something our parents tried to instill in us all. But it's also something some of us have forgotten over the years. And now, with people being as busy as they are, it might have gone by the wayside entirely.

I went to a dining etiquette workshop on Monday afternoon at Campbellsville University. Look in Monday's issue for photos from the event.

  • Feeding America feeds those in Taylor County

Feeding America, Kentucky's Heartland is a nonprofit, charitable food bank located in Elizabethtown, Ky. It is one of the 200 Feeding America affiliated Food Banks across the nation.

The main purpose of this letter is to familiarize you with FAKH's mission; we have found that most people outside of our immediate area are not familiar with the very important role and the critical service we provide to those in need throughout the entire region of central, south central and western Kentucky.
