  • People are against smoking ban

I would like to ask members of the City Council for a few minutes of their time to explain my views on the proposed smoking ban in Campbellsville.

First, let me introduce myself so you can get a good understanding of which demographic I represent. My name is Matt Pendleton. I am a 33-year-old married man with three children, one of whom has asthma. I live in the county but work in the city.

  • Horne is the answer

Whether it was attending a business function, private party, family celebration or running an errand, it seems everywhere I went over the holidays I ended up in a discussion with yet another Kentuckian who is fed up with Mitch McConnell.

We now have a solution to the problem.

  • Newest safety net is promising

Thanks to technology, our families will soon be safer.

A new "One Call Now" program, already in use at some local schools, will notify us by telephone in the event of an emergency in Taylor County.

The one-call system can send a pre-recorded message to as many as 5,000 phone numbers in a minute's time. In less than 10 minutes, all of Taylor County could be warned of an approaching storm.

  • Mother's worst nightmare comes true

Victims of domestic violence go to great lengths to protect their children. They do not want their children to be hurt and will voluntarily take a beating in order to keep their children from being hit.

A mother's worst nightmare is to have her children become a victim of the violence.

  • Why not dream big?

I'm a big planner. I have lists everywhere, at home, at work, in the car, you name it. Most of those lists, though, are for everyday things I don't want to forget.

But I also have a "Someday" list. Someday ... I want to travel to Europe. Someday ... I'd like to take a cruise. Someday ... I'll clean out the basement.

Who doesn't have a list like that, even if it's not written down on paper?

  • Bring unity to fight against anti-Americansim

We believe our country is faced with an enemy within our borders every bit as strong as the enemies Americans battle on foreign shores everyday. On the one hand, there is a hodgepodge of vituperative anti-American groups, who see the world through a bitter prism of defeat and destruction, always ready to denigrate and denounce the greatness of our country. These groups often find support among left-leaning politicians, within our educational institutions, and from the mainstream media.

  • There is help for those in foreclosure

In response to the Dec. 27 front-page article concerning home foreclosures, Sunset Beach Properties is trying very hard to work directly with local people and local banks to buy property before it goes into the foreclosure process.

We can not only pay off the note but provide a little financial aid and manpower assistance to move that family as well as provide money for the immediate future. We also help in the form of not ruining one's credit.

  • Get your heart in the right place

Jesus told me he delayed his second coming because most people's hearts ain't right. Isaiah 48:9 says "For the sake of My name, I delay My wrath, and for My praise I restrain it for you, in order not to cut you off."
