It was an honor to help with the 2011 Taylor County Fair. The few overworked, unpaid fair board members have so many tasks to do throughout the year. There are months of pre-planning, but the weeks before and during the fair can be overwhelming.

There is constantly something to do, such as seeking sponsors and donations, mowing, spraying, weed eating, hanging banners, hanging and watering the beautiful flowers, building the stage, stocking the concessions, setting up gates and tedious daily upkeep of the grounds by picking up litter and emptying the garbage cans.

Recently I ran into a conflict regarding restrictions on our subdivision. I called every official I could to find out how to get the issue resolved. Ultimately, I was told that if it was in reference to adherence to the restrictions or covenant made when the subdivision was formed, I would probably have to file a lawsuit against that person for there was no one to enforce the rules.

The Taylor County Public Library would like the thank Chase McBride from WVLC "the Big Dawg" for drawing the prize winners for the summer reading program, and thanks to the Big Dawg for donating two tickets from Kentucky Down Under.

Thanks to WVLC, WCKQ, and WGRK for the radio coverage for the summer reading program. We would also like to thank CKNJ for the excellent service that they give to the library. Without radio and newspaper coverage, we would not be able to have the large number of children and adults come to our programs at the library.

I have always been a supporter of good education and proper training of our children. I have been much disappointed of late in our school system and some of those who are running it. I am speaking of the Campbellsville System.

It seems that the real needs of the students are being overlooked, except by a few really dedicated teachers. All of our funds are being placed more on sports and the cliques they create than on the assurance of good education. Counselors seem less concerned with some and are failing the real needs of those who need it most.
