Letters

  • Support the Walsh team

As a member of Bill Walsh's team in his bid for Taylor County Sheriff, I want to speak on our behalf.

Much has been made of the KSP background of several of us, and a lot of mud has been slung - often a sign of desperation. I'm not here to meet dirt with dirt. My message is simple, straight and clean: Bill Walsh as sheriff is the right man at the right time for the right reasons.

  • Shields is doing a good job

I read with interest the letter to the editor supporting Joey Wasson for PVA. I do not know Mr. Wasson, but I have had dealings with Julie Shields and her staff.

This past May, I was a census worker in Taylor County. I was born in Taylor County, am a proud graduate of Taylor County Schools and Campbellsville University, but I moved back to Campbellsville about two years ago, so I was not familiar with many of the side roads.

  • Support Jack Conway

Current Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has been one of Kentucky's senators for 26 years. He has centered his political career around promoting himself as the chief defender of "money is speech."

  • Support Conway for Senate

Rand Paul has said numerous times that the Medicare deductible should be raised to $2,000. (A video of this was shown Oct. 4 on WHAS11). This is a lot of money coming out of your pocket every year. If you have a spouse, their deductible will be $2,000 also, equaling $4,000 per year.

  • Searching for postal items

I happen to be a disabled person who collects U.S. postal history items.

I am writing to several newspapers across the country in search of postal history covers to add to my collection. I am collecting old envelopes from 1970 to the present.

If anyone in your area is interested in donating old envelopes, please mail them to Elysia Duke, 3315 Treece Road, Hornbeak, TN 38232-3039.

  • Is it so?

Is it so? The "un-God-ly" thieves appreciate the donations more than the "God-ly" mission, who leave items out in the weather until it is convenient to take them inside.

Surely they have some honest church volunteers who will sort daily, or tend store to take in the finest donations and leave the balance outside with a sign "FREE - TAKE IT AWAY." It will disappear quickly, without cost, by the "grateful poor" or kindness of others, while providing longer store hours for the good of all.

  • TRH golf scramble thanks

Taylor Regional Hospital would like to take this opportunity to give our sincere thanks to the following people and businesses for their donations and sponsorships to the 2nd Annual TRH Golf Scramble.

Thanks to these supporters, we were able to raise enough money to purchase a new van to be used to assist patients who do not have a means of transportation.

Major sponsors: Citizens Bank, Community Trust Bank and Taylor County Bank.

Diamond sponsors: Bennett's Carpets, Jewish Hospital and St. Mary's Healthcare, Johnson Controls.

  • Judge thanks emergency services

I want to personally thank the law enforcement offices, E-911, Rescue and Fire Departments as well as the 200 to 300 volunteer citizens of this community, along with emergency and rescue personnel from surrounding counties, for their immediate and diligent search and rescue efforts for Sandra Morris. It's comforting to know that Morris is safe and recovering from what could have been a grim situation.

  • Get out and vote

With Election Day just around the corner, I take this opportunity to urge all of the readers of the News-Journal to get out and vote. And consider also that, if you flip a switch to turn the lights on, there is a good possibility that the electricity is produced from coal. And you probably also realize a savings on it because it is produced from coal.

The coal industry is currently under attack from those in Washington who would want to stop all coal mining. We cannot let this happen. There is no alternative in place to take the place of coal.

  • BPW supports Allen for mayor

In about two weeks, we will have the privilege and responsibility to vote for local, state and federal candidates. The members of Campbellsville Business and Professional Women once again enthusiastically endorse and support the re-election of Mayor Brenda Allen, a proven leader. Her record of service to the city and its citizens for the last eight years is evidence of her exceptional leadership.
