  • LETTER: Life's lessons

My daughter-in-law gave me a diary for a birthday gift and asked me to write some of my life's lessons in it for my grandchildren. Every once in a while, life gives you a very special moment, so overwhelming you almost glow. I had just experienced one. These are a few do's - don'ts that come to mind ...
    Say thank you a lot.
    Plant a garden every spring.
    Live beneath your means.
    Be forgiving of others.
Be a student in some kind of class.
Make new friends, but cherish the old ones.

  • LETTER: Veteran offers thanks

As a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, I am writing to thank all of those who helped provide excellent programs to honor veterans on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Campbellsville Middle School and on Thursday, Nov. 11 at Taylor County High School and at the Taylor County Courthouse. On Tuesday, Nov. 16, we veterans were again honored at Campbellsville High School.
All participants did an excellent job, especially the CMS Eagle Choir whose members sang beautifully from memory all of the military hymns on Tuesday at CMS and on Thursday at the courthouse square.

  • Spiritual confusion

Recently, the Courier-Journal reported that Dr. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, wrote at length to instruct Christians not to do yoga.
He says, "The embrace of yoga is a symptom of our postmodern spiritual confusion, and, to our shame, this confusion reaches into the church."

  • Kids Outdoor Day thanks

On behalf of all of the volunteers, participants and sponsors, I would like to extend a huge thank you to all who made this year's event possible. Once again we had a wonderful day outside in the great outdoors enjoying the beautiful resources that God has given us.

  • Allen for mayor

I am writing this letter as a public endorsement of the re-election of Mayor Brenda Allen. Allen has been a wonderful mayor for this community for the last eight years and she certainly has earned an additional term of office.

During her time as mayor, she has dealt with difficult personnel issues with tact and with firmness; she has down-sized the administration of the Water Co. without losing any effectiveness of the job that the Water Co. is doing in our community; and she has maintained emergency community services through times of economic uncertainty.

  • Support Marcum for jailer

I am writing to express my support for Eddie "Hack" Marcum as candidate for Taylor County jailer. I have known Marcum for many years, both professionally and personally. He is a hard worker who strives to do the best job in whatever endeavor he chooses.

I believe his prior law enforcement and business management experience make him the best candidate for jailer of Taylor County.

  • Vote Newton for sheriff

This letter is to endorse Allen Newton for Taylor County sheriff.

Newton is a hard-working Taylor County boy who has many years of experience in the Taylor County Sheriff's Department. More importantly, he can relate to people and doesn't look down on people.

I have worked close to the courthouse for 30 years, and I know Newton will operate the sheriff's office with fairness and common sense. We don't have to guess and wonder about that. We know him and he knows us.

  • Support Rogers as judge

This letter is to add our voice of support to Judge Eddie Rodgers in his re-election campaign because we lived, first hand, the dedication and hard work he does for Taylor County. As a young business that wished to locate in Taylor County, Rogers was our constant help and support. He used his relationships in Frankfort to bring our company and the jobs we had hoped to provide for the people of Taylor County to the attention of everyone from the governor of your great state to the Kentucky State Economic Development Division, all of whom worked on our behalf.

  • Wasson for PVA

We are writing this letter in support of Joey Wasson, PVA candidate. We feel Wasson is the right man for this job. He is honest, intelligent, hard working, positive and above all certainly a great person.

  • Support Allen for mayor

With the upcoming election and the strong desire for change that is sweeping across the nation, I wish to voice my concerns. While I too desire a drastic change in the political realm throughout this nation, we have a local office that I feel at this time does not need change. I am speaking of our mayor's office.

At this time of economic hardship, now more than ever, we need experience in this office to handle our tax money, not someone with no experience or knowledge of this job.
