  • Let the pharmacists do it

Senate Bill 45 will cost us all more money. Here is a solution that would work.

Pharmacists are one of the most trusted and the most accessible health care provider in Kentucky and in the nation. Pharmacists are also the most underutilized health care professional. We have the education and training to do much more than anyone in state government recognizes.

  • Is common sense contagious?

I am sure few of your readers may realize that in 31 of the past 35 years, the expenses of our federal government exceeded its revenues. Such data is readily available if one takes time to do the research, but most of us are content to just fuss about deficits and budget balances and let the politicians worry about the big fiscal picture. Trouble is, they obviously haven't been worrying about it. Until lately, that is.

  • Salvation Army thanks

We would like to thank the community for supporting The Salvation Army 2010 Christmas kettle bell ringing. You may have been one of those willing to weather the rain, snow and cold temperatures to ring our bells, perhaps you remembered us as you passed by the kettles, or maybe you helped get the word out to others or gave us a place to set up our kettles.

Whatever your contribution, we thank you very much.

  • Cattlemen's Association thanks

On behalf of the Taylor County Cattlemen's Association, we would like to thank the following businesses for donating door prizes for the association's annual meeting on Feb. 3 at the Taylor County Extension Office:

  • Diabolical Taylor County librarians

Richard Sheridan once wrote, "A circulating library in a town is as an evergreen tree of diabolical knowledge! It blossoms through the year!"

Among the unanticipated blessings of moving to Taylor County almost seven years ago was the faithful, friendly, diligent and diabolical work of our Taylor County Public Library staff.

  • Consider immigration legislation effects

I would like to comment on the immigration issue and feel that I am qualified to do so I am an immigrant myself, a legal immigrant, that is.

It has been reported by AP that Republican Senate President David Williams is pushing a proposal that would allow police to arrest illegal immigrants on trespassing charges for setting foot in Kentucky. Williams said that the immigration proposal Senate Republicans are pushing would be similar to a law passed in Arizona that allows police to determine the immigration status of people they detain.

  • March of Dimes thanks

The 2010 March of Dimes' Green River March for Babies was held at Graham Memorial Park in Lebanon on Oct. 23, 2010. Thanks to everyone who formed teams, donated and helped raise $9,450 to improve the health of all babies. We have raised an additional $450 in the two months since the walk, bringing our total for 2010 to $9,900.

Thanks to our 2010 Ambassador Mother, Heather Farmer, for sharing her daughter Kaleigh's story with the community.

  • School Board appreciation

As a citizen of Taylor County, I'm extremely proud of the students and teachers, the administrators and the service workers who are the heart and soul of the Taylor County School System. And I'm also proud of the district leadership this community has put in place through the members of the Taylor County Board of Education.

  • Toys for Kids thanks

    Toys for Kids thanks

On behalf of the Campbellsville and Taylor County Fire Departments, I want to thank each and every person, organization or business who contributed money, toys or time to assist in our Toys for Kids program.

You helped bring Christmas to more than 500 children in our community and without your support we would not have achieved this success.

    Thank you!

    Sharon Dobson

    Toys For Kids Coordinator

  • The Blessing Bell touches us all

It isn't the dinner bell ringing for that Christmas feast, nor is it the jingle from that one horse open sleigh. It isn't the tinkle of Rudolph's harness as he flies through the sky, and it isn't even the beautiful church bells sounding at midnight to announce the celebration of Christmas.

The Blessing Bell rings loud and clear, calling out for donations to be dropped into the red kettle at the Salvation Army collection sites.

Standing beside the bucket, ringing that little bell filled my heart with innumerable blessings this Christmas season.
