• Distinguished Young Woman leaders show appreciation

On Aug. 27, 19 of our community’s most outstanding girls competed for more than $13,000 in cash scholarships and more than $70,000 in college-offered scholarships.
We are all very pleased that Kimberly O’Brien was named our first Distinguished Young Woman of Taylor County.

  • Woman appreciates man's respect

My name is Wanda Cash Perkins and I wanted to express my sincere appreciation to a total stranger. I sure hope he reads the CKNJ.

My aunt, Maxine Phillips, passed away a few weeks ago and we were on our way to the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Campbellsville.

As we were crossing the intersection at Broadway and Columbia Road, we noticed several people were driving slower and some had pulled to the side of the road to show their respect. Although it is not a law that this be done, there are still a lot of people that do it.

  • Chamber thanks golf sponsors

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the hole sponsors, corporate sponsors, and to those who donated items for our goody bags.

Without these people the Chamber of Commerce Annual Golf Scramble would not be a huge success. Thanks to the following: Greg's Furniture, Burkholder Insurance, Lyon-DeWitt, P.C. Clark, Magnolia Alley, Team Taylor County, Lee's Famous Recipe, Q-104, Smith-Altman Ins. H & W Sport Shop, Creek Side Restaurant,

  • Reader still suports Postal Service

Sept. 7, I mailed a $62 check to our local post office, with a pretty Forever stamp on the envelope, for the renewal of my P.O. Box I've had for some 30 years.

No matter if they cut Saturday delivery, my P.O. Box will have my mail.

I'm sticking with a business I learned to depend upon 70 years ago, USPS!

  • Citizenship award thanks

To Wanda Washington, Eddie Rogers and all involved with Greater Campbellsville United, thank you for the Citizenship award bestowed upon me last Friday, Sept. 2 during the "Music on the Courthouse Square" event. It was truly a big surprise.

Now I know why my wife Trina just about had a spaz attack when I told her that my doctor had advised me to stay at home. I am so glad that I came.

  • Repeal free trade agreements

The jobless situation that has been the spotlight in the news led me to voicing my concerns to Senator Mitch McConnell.

I'm deeply concerned about the jobless situation. As a small business owner, I share the suffering of the effects of jobs going overseas. You voted for CAFTA and NAFTA. I share the belief with most other people that these free trade agreements are the central reason why jobs are extremely scarce.

  • Child abuse in your county

Chances are there's a child being abused or neglected within a few miles of you today. Child abuse knows no economic, geographic or social barriers. It can happen in virtually any neighborhood, in any community and in any county in the state.

Abuse and neglect results in shattered lives, ruined childhoods, broken families and sometimes even death. In fact, a recent study revealed that the state of Kentucky led the nation in the number of deaths stemming from child abuse and neglect.

  • Tourism thanks

The Taylor County Tourist Commission and Campbellsville/Taylor County Chamber of Commerce would like to sincerely thank all 44 volunteers for their participation in the Taylor County booth at the Kentucky State Fair on Aug. 18-28.

"The Heart of it All - Taylor County" archway really made the booth stand out from the rest of the displays in the Pride of the Counties exhibit area.

A big "thank you" goes to Cox Interior, Douglas Cabinetry, Taylor County Judge/Executive Eddie Rogers and Bud Mirus for all their hard work on this beautiful archway.

  • Kiwanis thanks

On behalf of the family of Doug Mullins and the Campbellsville Kiwanis Club, we would like to say thank you to those of you who worked, played or sponsored a hole for our second annual Doug Mullins Memorial/Kiwanis Golf Scramble.
