  • Where have the years gone?

    CKNJ's May 23 issue with Section A's back page featuring Downtown Campbellsville Explore Discover Connect Downtown Business Association makes me wonder where the years have gone. How well I remember downtown looking exactly as the picture shown. Many times after services at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church on North Columbia and North on Second street, which is now our public library, my mom and I would have lunch at Puryear's Coffee Shop, a plate lunch for 35 cents.

  • Seeking 'Everyday hero' nominees

    I'm currently accepting nominees for the next installment of the "Kentucky's Everyday Heroes" book series, third volume. The criterion is: A living Kentuckian who has overcome extreme personal challenges and/or has given of themselves in a noble and sacrificial way. Their lives serve as examples to inspire others to greater acts of character.

    The nominee would be considered "ordinary," mostly only known to people in their communities, but will have an "extraordinary" lasting impact.

  • A break in summer?

    I have two teenagers who attend Taylor County Schools, and overall I have always been pleased with the school system. I have a few questions and a suggestion.

    Our summer breaks are so short, just barely two months. If you schedule a family vacation, visiting grandparents, Vacation Bible School, church camp, any sport activity and any time at all with the family ... your summer vacation is full.

  • Hunger relief thanks

    As many in the community are aware, food insecurity situations continue to increase throughout Central and South Central Kentucky due to increasing financial struggles. Fortunately, many individuals, groups and organizations are choosing to make a difference in helping feed the hungry.

    Feeding America, Kentucky's Heartland staff and board of directors would like to take this opportunity to thank the National Association of Letter Carriers, the U.S. Postal Service and all individuals who donated food to the 19th Annual "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive on May 14.
