  • Pratt donates luggage to help local foster, adopted children

     

    Don Pratt has been donating luggage to foster and adopted children for roughly 15 years.

    Pratt, 70, a native of Hazard who grew up in and still lives in Lexington, said he's been a single foster dad to some 65 boys and girls over a 30-year period. He's seen more than a few of them carrying their belongings in garbage bags.

    James DeWitt and his chickens will be ruffling their feathers during the next four days at the Kentucky State Fair in hopes of being named as grand champion. DeWitt begins competing today with 12 of what he calls “God’s greatest creations.”

    Jennifer Wolford recently earned her Master of Arts degree in creative writing from Florida State University in Tallahassee.

  • Hedgepath named to education standards board

     

    Dr. Donna R. Hedgepath, vice president of academic affairs at Campbellsville University, was appointed last week by Gov. Steve Beshear (D) to the state's Education Professional Standards Board.

    "Being appointed to this board is truly an honor," Hedgepath said. "Of all the independents in Kentucky, to be the one asked to do this, it really means a lot to me. I've already received messages from ... some of my other partners at Pikeville, Kentucky Christian and Thomas Moore and all the other private schools."

  • Air Evac celebrates 30 years

     

    This month, Air Evac Lifeteam celebrates 30 years of providing access to definitive healthcare for thousands of medically underserved people.

    The local Air Evac group will celebrate its 11th year this November, Dan Durham, senior program director for Eastern Kentucky's Air Evac Lifeteam, said.

    The local team is based in Taylor Regional Hospital. They have eight full-time medical personnel, four pilots and five part-time personnel, for a total of 17 people.
