  • CU hosts 28th annual President's Club dinner

    Dr. E. Bruce Heilman urged audience members at the 28th annual President's Club dinner recently in the Winters Dining Hall to "continue the upward momentum" of Campbellsville University.

  • A 'Dream' vacation

    Jewel Cox was excited. So excited, in fact, that the only thing the 5-year-old wanted to do was go to sleep. And it was only noon.

    "She knew that when she woke up, she was going to Disney World," her mother said.

    Jewel and her family, parents Tony and Shirley, and brother, Ethan, 12, left Feb. 21 for a four-day, all-expense-paid trip to Disney World. The vacation was provided by the Sunshine Foundation, an organization that fulfils the dreams of seriously ill, physically challenged or abused children ages 3 to 18.

  • Statewide tornado drill scheduled for tomorrow

    The annual statewide "tornado drill" is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:07 a.m. ET.

    The drill is being conducted in conjunction with March being declared Severe Storms Preparedness month in Kentucky. March is considered the peak of Kentucky's severe weather season.

  • Will CATS be scratched?

    The assessment test Kentucky students have taken for the past nine years could be replaced as early as next year.

    A senate bill filed last week seeks to replace the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System. And while lawmakers say dropping CATS could save time and money, local administrators aren't sure the move is a good idea.

  • Guardsman speaks to history classes

    Sgt. Robbie Rogers of the Campbellsville National Guard recently spoke to Jeff Gumm's and Shane Cox's U.S. history classes at Taylor County High School. Rogers talked about his time in Iraq.

  • TCES kindergarten registration is March 13-14

    Taylor County Elementary will be conducting kindergarten registration for the 2008-2009 school year on Thursday and Friday, March 13-14.

    Registrations will take place each day from 8:30 a.m. through 2 p.m.

    To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 1. To register a child for kindergarten, parents must schedule an appointment by calling the elementary school at 465-5691.

  • Smith stationed at Ft. Hood

    Pfc. Brandon Smith graduated on Feb. 1 from Company B, 2nd Battalion, 81st Armor Regiment at Fort Knox.

    Smith attended both Campbellsville and Taylor County school systems and is currently stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas.

    He is the son of Linda Jenkins and Kelvin Mills.

  • Sunday school class donates to backpack program

    Judy Dabney's Sunday school class at Campbellsville Baptist Church made a $415 donation to the Taylor County BackPack Program. For just $20, the BackPack Program is able to feed a child on weekends, school breaks and during the summer.   • Beard, Davis earn $18,000 fellowships

    Two Taylor Countians are among 30 leaders throughout South Central Kentucky who have been awarded fellowships by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture to take part in the third class of the Kentucky Entrepreneurial Coaches Institute.

    Ann Beard and Holly Davis will receive a fellowship valued at $18,000 in the form of eight seminars lasting two to three days in length and a weeklong study tour throughout the Western United States. Fellows will learn from regional, national and international leaders in rural entrepreneurship while taking part in the Institute.
