  • Prom: Taylor County High School

    More than 400 students attended the Taylor County High School prom Saturday.

    With the theme "An Evening in Morocco," parents and students spent a week decorating the gym and cafeteria for the event. The prom was followed by a breakfast at Phillips Lanes from 1 until 3 a.m.

  • KCS teacher is Educator of the Year

    Most people probably haven't given much thought to what sea creature they would be, if ever given the chance. But Elizabeth Wigginton probably has.

    And her goal of challenging her fourth-grade students at Kentucky Christian School has paid off.

    Elizabeth Wigginton received this year's Outstanding Educator of the Year Award at the recent Campbellsville/Taylor County Chamber of Commerce banquet.

  • Woman arrested on arson charge

    A Campbellsville woman has been arrested and charged with arson after she allegedly set her sister's home on fire Saturday night.

    But the arrest came several hours after an earlier incident involving Geneva Mae Brown Hicks.

    In a report by Campbellsville Police Officer Jason Simpson, police received a complaint at about 3 p.m. reporting an altercation at Hicks' West Walnut Street home. E-911 dispatch told Simpson that shots had been fired inside the home.

    Mother's Day comes but once a year. But, honestly, it should be celebrated every day of the year.

    We all have mothers ... either by birth or in someone we look to as a mother figure. They are the women who comfort us when we need comforting, encourage us when we need encouragement, who teach us right from wrong, who love us even when we feel we've failed them.

  • CU's Briggs places first at NCCAA track meet

    Detrick Briggs is Campbellsville University's first National Christian College Athletic Association All-American in track and field after winning the triple jump at the recent NCCAA meet at Indiana Wesleyan College in Marion, Ind.

    Briggs' jump of 13.81 meters (45-3.75 feet) placed him at the top of his event.

  • Cox's bat on fire at Arkansas

    Last week was an eventful week for former Campbellsville, Taylor County and Pleasure Ridge Park baseball player Zack Cox and former Campbellsville High School and Campbellsville University football player Brad Lawson.

    Cox broke out of his first collegiate slump at the University of Arkansas while Lawson is taking a new coaching position in western Kentucky.

    Cox, who saw his average drop below .250, enjoyed his second straight .400 or better week by going 6-15 in the four games he started with three extra-base hits, including a pair of homers.

  • LWC to graduate largest class ever

    Lindsey Wilson College will cap off the largest class in its history on Saturday, May 9.

    Lindsey Wilson's 89th commencement ceremony will be at 11 a.m. ET in the college's Biggers Sports Center. A total of 161 undergraduate and graduate degrees will be conferred. Combined with the 325 degrees conferred at the winter commencement, the Class of 2009 stands at 486 students - the largest in the college's 109-year history.
