  • Little League Stars post first-round victories

    Campbellsville's Little League All Stars posted first-round victories in District Tournament action last week at Miller Park.

    The 9-10s bested South Hardin 10-3 on Tuesday.

    Chase Thomas got the pitching win while Spencer Agee had two hits (single, double) and Thomas, Zack Bottoms, Will Miller, Jordan Cowherd and Chandler Stewart contributed singles.

    The 10-11-year-old squad run-ruled Washington County 10-0 on Tuesday with Austin Hash getting the victory.

  • Restaurant inspections for June 4

    The following restaurants were inspected by the Lake Cumberland District Health Department using the scale below.

    - 85 to 100, pass inspection

    - 70 to 84, restaurant must be reinspected within 30 days

    - Under 70, a suspension of permit notice is sent to owner; if owner doesn't reply within 10 days, the permit will be revoked and the restaurant will be closed.

    - First Hope Development Center of East Broadway in Campbellsville received a health code score of 100 citing no violations.

  • TRH to offer life support class

    Taylor Regional Hospital will present an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers new and recertification course on Wednesday, July 8 from 1 to 5 p.m. and Friday, July 24 from 8 a.m. to noon.

    Basic Life Support will describe the particular phases of emergency cardiac care that prevents circulatory or respiratory arrest (or insufficiency) through prompt recognition and intervention, early entry into the EMS system or both and externally supports the circulation and respiration of a victim of cardiac or pulmonary arrest through BLS.

    Glen and Trexie Lane of Campbellsville celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, June 17 with cake and homemade ice cream.

    John "Bam" and Jen Carney of Campbellsville announce the birth of a son, Ethan Reid, at 8:09 a.m. on Monday, June 28 at Taylor County Hospital in Campbellsville.

    Army Pvt. Brian D. Edwards has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

  • Grace Notes

    As I write this, it's Day 8 of my 10 days off.

    The first five days were a blur of not doing much - reading, laundry, cleaning out my bathroom junk drawer. I watched a lot of reality TV, dozed on the couch, thought about washing my windows, made a pot of black beans one day, which were very good, thought about cleaning out the refrigerator.

    Then came Day 6 - Beach Day. We strapped our bikes onto the back of the truck and drove to Clearwater Beach, the clear, blue sky and hot, hot sun designed by the chamber of commerce.

    Or perhaps God.

  • Precept study begins Aug. 6

    "Kinsmen-Redeemer" is a study for those who have never taken a Precept class and for those who like to study inductively.

    A study of the Book of Ruth, Kinsmen-Redeemer tells about Jesus and his willingness to "pay the ultimate price."

    Precept Bible studies reach across denominational lines without compromising the truth of God's word.

    Classes will take place on Thursdays from Aug. 6 through Aug. 27 at Bethel First Presbyterian Church, located at 502 E. Main St. in Campbellsville, from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.

  • Fourth of July Celebration features float contest

    Truth Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church's "The Fight For Freedom Is Never Finished" float took first place in the AutoSmart float contest during the annual Fourth of July parade.

    The Campbellsville/Taylor County Fourth of July Celebration committee awarded $850 in prize money during the annual Taylor County Bank parade on Saturday, July 4 in downtown Campbellsville.

    First prize received $500, second $250 and third $100.

    Floats were required to be patriotic and reflect the theme of "Honoring Those Who Fight for Our Freedom."
