  • Kidd takes first in talent contest

    Victoria Kidd won first place in the Russell County Fair Talent Contest with her performance of "Real Gone" by Sheryl Crow. She is the daughter of Wayne and Stephanie Kidd of Campbellsville. Her grandparents are Ottis and Barbara Wright and Tom and Thelda Kidd, all of Campbellsville. Great-grandparents are Lou Vera Wright and Liza Jane Kidd, both of Campbellsville.

    Taylor County High School Class of 1969 hosted its 40-year reunion on Saturday, June 27 at the Rosewood Country Club.

    There is nothing natural about stepping off the platform of a 60-foot tower into nothing but thin air and adrenaline. I came to that conclusion the hard way some time ago when I took my first leap of faith into the world of bungee jumping.

    We made a quick trip to Tennessee that weekend to see a friend graduate from college and decided to spend the night. My wife and boys wanted to go into Gatlinburg the next morning, and I unenthusiastically gave in.

  • Elk Horn Baptist opens Wings of Angels Closet

    Elk Horn Baptist Church has opened Wings of Angels Clothes Closet, where adults and children in need can receive clothing and shoes.

    The closet is open every Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m. However, if a need arises beyond those hours, recipients may call and someone will meet them there.

    The closet will also accept donations of good clothing and shoes during its open hours.

    While corn, tobacco and other crops in most areas of the state are drying up because of an extended drought, Steve Doss says most Taylor County farmers have been lucky. "We've gotten rain when we have needed it," said Doss, area program director for the Kentucky Farm Bureau.

    Phillip and Geneva Corbin will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Sunday, Aug. 15.

    Fourteen girls will be competing for the title of Taylor County Junior Miss this summer.



  • Taylor County Junior Miss participants 'take tea' at Clay Hill

    Taylor County Junior Miss participants were honored with a tea on Saturday, Aug. 1 at historic Clay Hill. The girls were treated to a sampling of treats provided by a local restaurant and members of the Junior Miss Committee.

    After enjoying their afternoon tea, the young ladies traveled to Lebanon to attend the Marion County Junior Miss program.

    The Taylor County Junior Miss Scholarship Program will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29 at Campbellsville High School's Hamilton Auditorium.

  • Super 8 hosts ribbon cutting ceremony

    Ambassadors from the Chamber of Commerce, Campbellsville Mayor Brenda Allen and Taylor County Judge/Executive Eddie Rogers, along with other city representatives, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at Super 8 to welcome the motel's newest owner, Ajit Shah and general manager, Saavi Rajput. Super 8 is located at 100 Albion Way in Campbellsville. Renovations have been completed both inside and outside the building. Super 8 has nightly and weekly rates. Some of the amenities include free Internet access, complimentary continental breakfast and an indoor pool and hot tub.
