  • KSP at State Fair

    Kentucky State Police Trooper Billy Gregory, public affairs officer for KSP Post 15 in Columbia, talks with children awaiting entry to the Safety Town exhibit at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville. The exhibit teaches children basic safety rules as they ride tricycles through a miniature city featuring traffic lights, stop signs and buildings.

  • KSP accepting applications for Citizens Police Academy

    Kentucky State Police Post 15 is now accepting applications for the 2009 Kentucky State Police Citizens Police Academy.

    The 10-week academy will help students learn about the many facets of the Kentucky State Police, including patrol, criminal investigations and drug investigations. Students will also get to take part in simulated traffic stops and evidence collection.

    Classes will begin on Oct. 1 with the final class on Dec. 10. Students will meet Thursdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the State Fire Rescue Training Center located at 385 Old Greensburg Road in Campbellsville.

  • School bus stolen, crashes into police cars

    A Campbellsville man has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses after officers say he stole a school bus and led them on a chase.

    Ronald Vanheck, 33, of 726 Buckner St. was arrested at 4:34 p.m. on Saturday after Sheriff's Deputy Rodney Cox tried to stop Vanheck while he was driving the Taylor County School bus on Roberts Road. Vanheck refused, and a pursuit followed - with Vanheck eventually colliding with a Campbellsville Police cruiser and then backing into Cox's vehicle.

    Vanheck was taken into custody and lodged in the Taylor County jail.

  • Man accused of firing gun near woman

    A Campbellsville man has been arrested and is charged with assault after he allegedly shot a gun near a woman.

    James C. Whitehouse, 23, of 1588 Sanders Road was arrested at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25 by Taylor County Sheriff's Deputy Ricky Underwood.

    According to Whitehouse's arrest warrant, he is accused of threatening to kill the woman on Saturday, Aug. 22 and then firing a pistol near her face while she was sitting inside a vehicle.

  • Another Campbellsville Police officer suspended

    A second Campbellsville Police officer is the subject of an investigation.

    According to City Attorney John Bertram, the new investigation is not related to the one launched in July regarding an officer.

    Bertram said both officers have been suspended.

    Under state law, Bertram said he is not permitted to name the officers or provide any details of the investigations or whether the officers' suspensions are paid or unpaid.

    Both investigations are still under way, he said.

  • A high rescue

    There was a little more drama than Melvyn Douglas expected Monday when Ray's Tree Service showed up to trim some trees on his property on Beechwood Drive.

    A lever controlling the company's bucket truck stopped working and an employee was stuck 40 feet above ground.

    Street department employee Kenny Childers arrived in another bucket truck, this one owned by the City of Campbellsville, and was able to rescue the man who was trapped.

    What do Brenda Allen, Barkley Taylor, Amy Anderson, Lillian Clark, Vangie Ford, Julie Shields, Angie Johnson, Sharon Hoskins, Connie Phillips, Patti Phillips, Pat Hall, Sue Smith and Suzanne Wilson have in common?

    They are the only women in Taylor County elected to public office.

    So, believe it or not, of the thousands of women in Taylor County, there are but 13 who serve in positions of elected leadership.
