Back when I wore a size 14 petite, I had a pair of black pants that were mislabeled as a size 12 petite.

I called them my mercy pants, although I'm not sure why. At the time I figured that when you're 5-feet, 1-inch tall and wear a size 14 petite you need all the mercy you can get.

But that's just silly.

What's not silly is the concept of mercy. I think of all God's attributes, I love his mercy best. At least that's what I plead for most often. "God, be merciful to me, the sinner."

Taylor County High School was the winner of the 2nd Annual Taylor County Farm Bureau High School Battle of the Belts Challenge Cup. The award was presented at Friday night's cross-town basketball game.

The challenge began as an effort to encourage teen drivers to wear their seat belts each and every time they get in a car. At the beginning of school one day last week, a survey was conducted at each high school. During the survey, all vehicles arriving at the high schools were observed for seatbelt use.

Abbey Freeman nailed two treys in overtime to propel Indiana University South Bend to an 83-79 victory over Campbellsville University on Saturday afternoon.

IU South Bend led by as many as 22 points before the Lady Tigers went on a furious second-half rally to force the overtime period.

Freeman finished with 13, while Jen VanderZanden scored 20 points, to lead the Titans (11-6). Evva Comans contributed a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Cortney Flanigan was 12 for 16 from the line, scoring 18 points. Niki McDonald dropped in 11.
