  • Four couples graduate from prenatal class at TRH

    Four couples graduated from the prenatal and childbirth classes taught at Taylor Regional Hospital in October. The classes are taught on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at Taylor Regional Hospital's meeting room.

    This is a five-week series and is free to anyone delivering at TRH. The class is taught by Jenny Dobson.

  • Citizens Bank supports TRH walking track project

    Citizens Bank & Trust Co. recently presented Taylor Regional Hospital with a $10,000 check in support of a walking track project.

    Taylor Regional Hospital plans to build a half-mile track between the main hospital and the cancer center. This track will also include electricity, water and rest areas.

  • 'Here's your sign'

    Though a few may always be stolen from time to time, it's now a bit cheaper to replace road signs in Taylor County.

    In October, magistrates approved the purchase of a machine to make street and other signs from Econo Signs in Bowling Green.

  • Christmas wish list extended

    It's that time again. Yep, it's time for the annual Christmas List.

    For those who might be unfamiliar with the "list," each year at Christmas I publish a tongue-in-cheek - or maybe it's foot-in-mouth - wish list for various individuals and groups in the community.

    It's gotten to be such a regular thing that it almost wouldn't seem like Christmas without it. So, here goes ...

    Dear Santa,

    Hope you're well this year and aren't too tired by the time you reach Taylor County on Christmas Eve. There are a few things I'd like to ask you to bring some of the people here.

    -There are 4,298 computer terminals in Kentucky's public libraries.

    -The public library is the primary institution that bridges the digital divide in our communities.

  • Roads continue to occupy court meeting

    Though they voted last month to keep it open, magistrates heard from more Taylor County landowners in favor of closing a portion of Cat Hollow Road.

    Four Taylor County landowners expressed their thoughts on the decision at Tuesday's special Fiscal Court meeting. The Court's original Dec. 11 meeting date was rescheduled due to the inauguration of Gov. Steve Beshear.

  • Flu vaccine still available

    Kentucky Department for Public Health officials are reminding Kentuckians that it's not too late to get vaccinated against the flu, especially during this holiday season.

    "Now is a good time to protect yourself and your family by putting a flu shot on your holiday list," stated William Hacker, M.D., commissioner of DPH and acting undersecretary for health at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

  • Officials form parkway foundation

    Construction of the Heartland Parkway is still years away, which is why community leaders in several counties have teamed together to ensure the project becomes reality.

    "Because we know that this project will take a number of years to accomplish, we have set up The Heartland Parkway Foundation Inc., which is a regional nonprofit group dedicated to helping educate the public and decision makers on the importance of the project," said John Chowning, who is chair of the foundation.

  • New equipment won't thwart sign thieves

    It's a shame it's even necessary, but a recent purchase by the County makes good financial sense.

    Taylor Fiscal Court recently bought a $7,435 machine that will let County employees make road signs themselves rather than having to order them to help cut the cost.

    Last year alone, the County spent $8,900 on signs. With the new machine, hopefully that cost will decrease to the cost of supplies.
