  • CU graduates 83 in first-ever December commencement

    "My prayer is that Dec. 14, 2007, be a day you will look back on as a day of achievement and one where you felt a blessed sense of appreciation for all those who have helped make this day possible for you," said Dr. Michael V. Carter, Campbellsville University president, at the first-ever December commencement ceremony in the Ransdell Chapel.

    The traditional senior walk morphed into an evening candlelight walk before the 7 p.m. ceremony beginning at the E. Bruce Heilman Student Complex and ending at the chapel.

  • Eagle Express offers New Year's Eve babysitting

    Eagle Express is offering baby-sitting services on New Year's Eve from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

    Money raised from this event will help offset state budget cuts to continue to provide programs and opportunities for Campbellsville Middle School's after-school program, Eagle Express.

  • Merry Christmas!

    Christmas came early for Taylor County Elementary students. On Wednesday, the school celebrated the last day of classes before Christmas break with an encore performance from the fourth- and fifth-grade choir.

  • Lady Tigers triumph twice

    Freshmen Melly Heaton and Courtney Danis sparked the Campbellsville University Lady Tigers to wins over Dillard and Harris-Stowe in the Holiday Inn Express Holiday Hoops on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Powell Athletic Center.

    The Lady Tigers (8-5) raced out to a huge lead vs. Dillard on Tuesday night and held on for an 88-81 triumph.

    Heaton, from Caldwell County, nailed eight of her 13 three-point attempts and finished with 26 points in a 22-minute reserve role.

  • Junior Miss send-off reception is Dec. 30

    A send-off reception for Taylor County Junior Miss Megan Romines will be Sunday, Dec. 30.

    The reception is from 2 to 4 p.m. at Campbellsville Baptist Church's Fireside Room.

    Romines will compete Jan. 11-12 in the Kentucky Junior Miss competition at the Lexington Singletary Center.

    Family, friends and community members who wish to show support are invited to attend.

  • This may be the time to go honky punk

    When I was a kid, I found an old 78 record in our basement that featured Hank Williams singing "Cold, Cold Heart" on one side, and "Dear John" on the other. Those old 78s were nigh indestructible, as were the 45s that came later. I know this because "Dear John" is hanging on my family room wall, right beside my Dean Dillon "Slick Nickel" album and my James Dean poster.

    Anyway, I was listening to the radio the other day and heard an introduction for Hank Williams III.

  • Christmas dinner at the White House

    For many, the best Christmases are those that provide lasting memories. For Teresa Wolford, this Christmas is one she'll never forget.

    Last year, Wolford's brother, Jesse Bailey, called her and said a florist's position had opened up at the White House. At the time, Bailey owned JLB Floral in Alexandria, Va.

    "I told him, 'You can't pass this up. This is the opportunity of a lifetime.'"

    Bailey took his sister's advice, and four months later he got the job.

    A few weeks ago, Bailey called his sister again, this time offering her an opportunity of a lifetime.
