  • Locals earn degrees at WKU

    Two Campbellsville students and two Greensburg students were among the more than 1,000 graduates to earn degrees from Western Kentucky University on Saturday, Dec. 15 during its 162nd commencement at Diddle Arena.

    Degrees were conferred to 1,071 students (81 associate's, 778 baccalaureate, 211 master's and one specialist) who completed their programs this fall as well as five students who completed a cooperative doctoral degree in educational administration offered by WKU and the University of Louisville.

    About 800 students participated in the ceremony at Diddle Arena.

    Calling all former wish kids and grown ups in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. If you have had a wish granted locally in the last 25 years, contact your local Make-A-Wish office.

    Officials want to hear from you and invite you to be a part of the organization's celebration year. As a part of Make-A-Wish's 25th anniversary, The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana is hoping to find out "Where are they now?"

  • College-bound high school students should register for the ACT by Jan. 4

    The next ACT exam will be administered on Feb. 9 in all states except New York. Students who wish to take the college admission and placement exam on this date must register by Jan. 4, which is the deadline for having their registration postmarked.

    There is a late registration postmark deadline of Jan. 18; though an extra fee is charged for late registrations. Students can register online at www.actstudent.org, or registration forms can be picked up at high school counseling offices.

    Pasture and Hayland signups start next month

    The Kentucky Soil and Water Conservation Commission will resume State Cost Share sign-ups for the period of Jan. 1 to Jan. 25.

    The January cost share applications should be submitted to the Conservation District by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25.

    This year, the Pasture and Hayland Renovation practice allows producers interested in renovating existing pasture and hayland an option to specifically assist them in doing so.

  • Precept Bible study begins Jan. 10 at Bethel

    Certified by Precept Ministries International, Carol Freeman will be leading the eight-week study of Romans-Part Three.

    Classes begin on Thursday, Jan. 10 and continue through Feb. 28. Times are 1 to 3 p.m. or 7 to 9 p.m. The location is Bethel First Presbyterian Church, 502 E. Main St. in Campbellsville.

    Cost of the class is $23 for the workbook and materials. For additional information or to register, call Freeman at 465-8042 by Thursday, Jan. 3.

  • Campbellsville native named to national board

    Tracy J. Bertram, a Campbellsville native and director of the Kentucky Office of Insurance Property and Casualty Division, has been elected to the board of directors for the national System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing.

    SERFF, originally developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in the early 1990s, provides a more efficient method of handling insurance policy rate and form filings between regulators and insurance companies. Bertram also serves on the product steering committee.

  • Roution

    Eddie and Sam Roution of Merrimac will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 4.

    The Routions were married on Jan. 4, 1958 at The Church of Christ in Campbellsville by Mr. James Cooper.

    They have four sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Hilda Roution and Paul and Sheila Roution, all of Merrimac, Jimmy and Tammi Roution of Mannsville and Barry and Connie Roution of Campbellsville.

  • 'SAFE' drivers watch out for your safety

    On the first day of his new job, Jeromie Lewis stopped to help a motorist stranded on Interstate 65. The broken down pickup truck was flanked by traffic on all sides except the front.

    Construction on the interstate had slowed travelers to a crawl, which prevented Lewis from pulling in behind the truck like he had been trained to do.
