  • Looking forward to the past

    I can't remember exactly what I was whining about, but a month or so ago I was telling the one I call my uncle-dad about stuff that was going on.

    Actually, the stuff that was going on was serious stuff, so I wasn't really whining; I was seriously upset. Nevertheless, when I finished he said, "Cheer up! You have the past to look forward to."

    At the time, I attributed his comment to his advanced years and maybe a bit of senility setting in. Or maybe he didn't hear me correctly or was just trying to get me to shut my yap.

  • Girls Scouts visit radio station

    Taylor County Girl Scout Troop #222 donated to Toys for Tots and Toys for Kids on Dec. 13. They delivered the toys to Q-104 and had a chance to talk to Brandon Reed during his live show. Pictured are, from left, Sara Courtwright, Sara Clark, Meredith Johnson, Samantha Clark and Brittany Rose.

  • Lincoln Heritage Education Grant deadline is Dec. 31

    The application deadline for Lincoln Heritage Education Minigrants is Monday, Dec. 31. These grants are available during the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial period to public or private schools. They are intended to support field trips to Kentucky Lincoln sites in April, May and June 2008.

  • Blood drive is Jan. 5

    Holidays, bad weather and illness are a few reasons the blood supply often drops to critical levels during the winter months. But a stable supply is necessary to ensure blood is available when patients need it most.

    That's where you come in.

    In honor of National Blood Donor Month, the American Red Cross encourages the public to donate blood in January.

    As a token of appreciation, all participants in January blood drives will be eligible to enter a region-wide drawing for a high-definition television worth $1,000.

  • St. Jude benefit is Jan. 1

    Green River Stables will host its fourth annual Saddle Up for St. Jude event to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 1 at Green River Stables.

    Horse rides on the trails at Green River State Park will be given beginning at noon.

    Donations will be collected to help St. Jude battle against childhood cancer and other diseases. Refreshments will be served.

    Green River Stables is located at 592 Robin Road, off of Lone Valley Road.

  • Mr. Molecule visits TCMS

    Taylor County Middle School sixth and seventh grade science students viewed a performance by Mr. Molecule on Friday, Dec. 7.

    Mr. Molecule is a core curriculum science show that reviews concepts in the science areas of astronomy, ecology, the human body, physical science and life science.

    The show included colorful scenes and props, and engaged students with the giant "Wheel of Science." The show was planned for science students by the teachers of the Taylor County Middle School science department.

  • Court postpones taking actions on subdivision regulations

    Taylor County residents who own property outside the City limits won't have to abide by subdivision regulations just yet.

    Magistrates considered having first reading of an ordinance placing regulations on dividing land at the special Fiscal Court meeting last week. But they ultimately decided to send the issue back to a Committee for further discussion.

    The discussion stemmed from several months of debate on the cost and maintenance of gravel roads in Taylor County.

  • Rescuer of the Year

    Those who work behind the scenes are just as important to the success of an organization as those on the front lines, and Gary Hadley is proof of that.

    A dispatcher at Campbellsville/Taylor County Rescue, Hadleys co-workers have named him Rescuer of the Year. The award is given to someone who exhibits the qualities of a good Rescuer qualities that include dedication, knowledge and resourcefulness.

    Hadley has been with Rescue since 1989.

    Well, I needed a job and I like helping people. I thought this would be a good way to do both.
