  • Lady Dragons lead all but once over TC

    Taylor County's Lady Cardinals held only one lead and fell 55-32 at home to Green County on Tuesday night.

    Taylor County took the lead in the second as Cayla Rucker scored and MeLeigha Pollock hit a three-pointer. Megan Peake's free throw gave the Lady Cardinals its lone lead with 6:15 left in the half.

    Raegan Deaton's trey and Micah Jones' two steals and lay-ups started the Lady Dragon onslaught with Megan Hartfield and Kelsea Mitchell combining for 30 points for coach Chris Blaydes' team.

  • Mobley will not seek re-election

    Mobley will not seek re-election

    After eight years in office, State Rep. Russ Mobley has decided not to seek re-election this November.

    Mobley, R-Campbellsville, made the announcement in a press release on Tuesday.

    "It has been a great pleasure to serve the citizens of the 51st House District for the past eight years," Mobley stated. "We have made great strides in education; road and transportation enhancements; and infrastructure improvements. I'm proud to say I was a part of that process."

  • Man charged with rape

    A Columbia man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly took a woman and her child hostage.

    According to a Campbellsville Police report, on Tuesday at about 7:30 a.m., a woman and a child entered Minit Mart on Old Lebanon Road. The woman told the clerk that she was being held hostage at gunpoint at her home. Her alleged captor, Anthony D. Holliman, 30, was in the store at the time.

    According to the report, the woman said she was able to convince Holliman to let her go to the store for coffee.

    The clerk called police, who were able to arrest Holliman without incident.

  • CMS students honored in Martin Luther King Jr. contest

    Three Campbellsville Middle School students were recently selected as state winners in the Martin Luther King Jr. Essay and Visual Arts Contest.

    Students submitted an essay or artwork that reflected their most inspired King moment or speech in concert with the theme stating how he or she is using that inspiration to shape their lives and communities.

    A total of 1,200 entries were received. Two students were chosen as state first place winners while another received second place accolades.

  • Kids chapter story begins next week

    The Central Kentucky News-Journal's younger readers will soon have a chance to learn about our 33rd U.S. President on the Just For Kids page.

    Beginning Jan. 24, "A Familiar Face," an eight-chapter serial story, will follow a boy named Scotty Brown as he learns about Harry S. Truman.

    A homework assignment leads Scotty to discover "A Familiar Face" in the pages of history and to learn about the role a boy from Missouri had as an adult in international decisions of humanitarian aid, war and racial equality.

  • Campbellsville Police investigate robbery

    Campbellsville Police investigate robbery

    Campbellsville Police are looking for a black male who assaulted two Sonic employees Monday before fleeing the restaurant with an undetermined amount of money.

    According to a Campbellsville Police report, at about 10:10 p.m. a black male wearing a bandana, white T-shirt and dark, baggy pants entered the restaurant and assaulted two workers while demanding money.

    One of the workers was taken to Taylor Regional Hospital and treated and released.

  • CU play auditions are Jan. 22-23

    Campbellsville University's Department of Theater will have auditions for the play "The Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare on Jan. 22-23 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the University Theater.

    Call backs will be Thursday, Jan. 24, and those who get a part in the play are to be available Saturday, Jan. 26 for a read-through of the play.

    Starr Garrett, director of theater, said those wanting to audition are asked to call the theater office or come by the office in the Alumni Building to sign up for an audition time. The phone number is 789-5266.

  • Swan files for state representative

    Asa James Swan has filed as a Republican candidate for 51st District State Representative, an office currently held by Republican Russ Mobley. The district covers Taylor and Adair counties.

    Mobley announced earlier this week that he will not seek re-election. Republican Russell Montgomery has also filed for the seat.

    Swan, who teaches history at Lindsey Wilson College, filed his paperwork in Frankfort on Monday.
