  • Sprowles named partner with Wise, Buckner, Sprowles

    Jeff Sprowles has become a partner with Wise, Buckner, Sprowles and Associates, 301 E. Main St.

    He is a 1998 graduate of Lindsey Wilson College with a degree in accounting. He was licensed to practice public accounting in 1999. Before joining Wise, Lee & Buckner in January 2007, he was employed at the accounting firm of White & Co., PSC in Lebanon and managed his own practice in Campbellsville.

    Sprowles and his wife, Patricia, reside in Campbellsville and have two sons, Sean and Austin.

  • Hope by the cupful

    The day my husband's hope shattered I heard the crash and came running.

    He was in the kitchen replacing the fluorescent light bulbs over the sink, and when he went to put back the plastic cover, it slipped from his hands and fell, hitting his favorite coffee cup that was on the counter.

    The cup went sailing and hit the tile floor, breaking into too many pieces to put back together.

    Yeah, yeah. It's just a coffee cup and doesn't warrant such melodrama.

    But it does.

  • WKU admissions counselor to visit CHS

    Will Gramling, an admissions counselor at Western Kentucky University, will be visiting area high schools to discuss with prospective students the opportunities offered at WKU.

    Gramling will visit Campbellsville High School on Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 10:45 a.m. to noon.

  • 'Mindful Movement' classes offered through March 7

    An entry-level series of exercise classes is being offered at the Taylor County Extension Office for people who have either quit exercising or have been sedentary for a while.

    Emphasis will be placed on correct movement, gentle stretching for flexibility, balance to prevent falls and gradual strength training.

    Classes began Jan. 28 and will continue from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through March 7.

  • Noted theologian serving as scholar in residence at CU

    Baptists who want to know more about their heritage and history will be excited to learn that Campbellsville University has a world-class Baptist historian returning as scholar in residence, according to Dr. John Hurtgen, dean of the School of Theology at CU.

    Dr. Morgan Patterson is a historian whose specialty is Baptist history. He has written for the Encyclopedia of Southern Baptists, Baptist History and Heritage and a number of other publications that focus on either church history or Baptist history in particular.

  • TRH to offer smoking cessation classes

    Taylor Regional Hospital will present a 12-week smoking cessation class each Monday beginning Jan. 7.

    The class will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Taylor Regional Hospital Learning & Resource Center located at 125B Kingswood Drive.

  • First Baptist hosts R.E.A.C.H. ministry

    First Baptist Church is celebrating 160 years of ministry designed to R.E.A.C.H.

    R.E.A.C.H. is an acronym for relevant teaching and preaching, energetic evangelism and worship, assimilating new believers, creative ministries and missions and helping humanity.

    R.E.A.C.H. Sunday will take place this Sunday beginning at 4 p.m.

  • Tribute to a hero

    The words echoed down Main Street for all to hear. "We shall overcome, we shall overcome someday," sang the crowd of about 50 who marched from Campbellsville Middle School to the Campbellsville University campus.

    This weekend's annual events were aimed at keeping the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. alive. A pivotal figure in the Civil Rights Movement, King was shot and killed in Memphis, Tenn. on April 4, 1968.
