John "Bam" Carney has filed as a Republican candidate for 51st District State Representative, an office currently held by Republican Russ Mobley. The district covers Taylor and Adair counties.

Mobley announced earlier this month that he will not seek re-election. Republicans Russell Montgomery and Asa James Swan have also filed for the seat.

Carney filed the necessary paperwork in Frankfort on Tuesday.

Madison Dial was recently honored at a celebration assembly at Campbellsville Elementary School with a reading medal. She earned 100 Accelerated Reader points.

Dial is a second grader in Karen Skaggs' classroom at CES.

A Greensburg woman accused of sodomizing and sexually abusing a child has been sentenced to serve eight years in prison for her crimes.

Reba Regina Cox, 32, of 1495 Bluff Boom Road appeared before Taylor Circuit Court Judge Doughlas M. George on Tuesday, Jan. 22 for sentencing.

Cox avoided facing a jury by pleading guilty to second-degree sodomy and six counts of first-degree sex abuse the day before her trial was set to begin in November.

Cox was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years and undergo HIV testing.
